Triple J’s Michael Hing and Lewis Hobba QUIT the network

Popular Australian radio presenters quit station in shocking announcement: ‘It makes sense’

  • Michael Hing and Lewis Hobba are leaving Triple J

Michael Hing and Lewis Hobba leave Triple J after three years of hosting the radio station’s popular drive show.

Hobba, 38, had joined Veronica Milsom to host the program in 2015, while Hing, also 38, joined in 2020 as a co-host.

“It was time to pass it on,” Hobba said as they announced their departure.

“Hing and I were supposed to be a stopgap for nine months after Veronica Milsom left.”

Hing added that they look forward to passing the baton to a younger generation.

“This year we did four days a week, and we gave that Friday slot to other young broadcasters who can do the drive show so they can get some flying hours,” he said.

“It makes sense, we’re in our mid to late thirties and the audience is different. That said, despite all the criticism leveled at us, listeners have never made age an issue.”

The duo continue to work together and are now focusing on their new ABC podcast, Silver Bullet.

“It’s called Silver Bullet because every week we get a guy who tells us some weird or crazy wellness thing they do, then Hing and I try it, and we all judge it,” Hobba said.

“We’ve got Grace Tame showing us hot yoga, Abbie Chatfield introducing us to jaw massages, and Kiwi comedian Chris Parker taking us on a flotation device.”

The pair will also embark on a live radio farewell tour in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Bendigo and Newcastle in August and September.
