Radiant skincare powerhouse Trinny Woodall spills her four golden anti-ageing rules at 60 – and anyone can do them

Style icon Trinny Woodall looks better than ever at 60 – and now she’s revealed some of her most ‘kept’ anti-ageing secrets so others can do the same.

The British beauty and fashion guru is disciplined when it comes to maintaining her appearance and longevity.

Speaking to FEMAIL ahead of the launch of her Back Time Eye Treatment, the founder of Trinny London said she eats double the recommended protein for her age, keeps her sugar consumption virtually non-existent, sticks to a strength training regime and is a huge advocate of supplements .

For Trinny, beauty starts from within. Not only does she look radiant, she’s also bursting with energy and fueling her body to maintain her back-to-back schedule.

“I have more energy now than ever before,” Trinny said.

‘For me it’s not about taking your time, combating aging or preserving your youth. What matters is that when you look in the mirror, do you feel full of energy, that you can do anything with your day or do you feel tired?’

‘I don’t look at myself and think, “Oh my God, I look older!” I look and think, “Do I look alert and alive?”

‘When we look back in the mirror and feel that reflected in us, we feel capable of anything.’

Prioritize protein and reduce sugar RIGHT

Over time, Trinny has learned to prioritize her protein intake and has drastically cut out sugar, which can cause severe inflammation in the body.

She admits to seeing her ankles physically swell within minutes after consuming too much sugar – something she enjoyed in large quantities for years.

Now she starts her day with a big, hearty breakfast every morning, no matter what’s on her schedule.

She often eats an omelette with three eggs and chopped parsley on top, but used to always eat a croissant with coffee.

“For me, I try to avoid things that are inflammatory. “I was a real sugar junkie and would always eat gummy bears or sweet cookies in the afternoon,” she said.

‘Now I try to eat a lot more protein and double my body weight in protein every day, which is a real challenge. Sometimes I put an egg in my mouth in the afternoon.’

Trinny said that because she is postmenopausal, it is more important than ever to eat protein as it helps with strength, protecting bones and muscle development.

Strength training three times a week

Lifting weights at the gym three times a week is another of Trinny’s anti-aging secrets.

Trinny explained that the endorphins from strength training make her feel like she can take on the world.

“When you feel your strength physically, your mental strength increases and I think the two are so connected,” she said.

‘I only lift 10kg weights, but if I feel like I can do anything, bring it on!’

Lifting weights can not only help you burn fat and build muscle, but also help improve cardiovascular health.

Instead of pilates, which she used to do, she opts for a dynamic form of yoga twice a week.

Trinny admitted that she used to be a “sugar junkie” but now barely eats sugary foods

What are Trinny’s anti-aging secrets?

* Reduce sugar as much as you can without depriving yourself of the pleasure – swap ice cream for apple with peanut butter or a piece of good quality dark chocolate

* Have a good skin care routine and stick to it

* Only invest in high-quality skin care gadgets if you want to stick with it. Buy them and watch them if you want to see results. Don’t make it a chore and use them on the toilet for five minutes if you’re short on time

* Take marine collagen every day and apply it to your face

* Use makeup with nourishing ingredients that heal your skin while you wear it

* Focus on lymphatic drainage methods on your face, it is excellent for reducing puffiness

* Listen to your body and your skin, it will physically show you if you have inflammation in your body

* The new Take Back Time Eye Treatment for mature skin. ‘I never believed in the concept of an eye cream until I discovered the incredible, powerful effects of mini protein to totally transform the eye contour. Seeing is believing,” Trinny said

Vitamin C is essential

Trinny helps her skin from within by taking high doses of vitamin C. She also uses it topically.

‘A topical vitamin C and ascorbic acid are important, especially in Australia where you will have the effect of pigmentation. SPF 50 is also a given, but apply a layer of vitamin C first,” she said.

‘The only way I got rid of my pigment was when I woke up one morning and thought, I need to use vitamin C and SPF 50. UV B causes sunburn and UV A causes aging, and sun damage can happen through your window.

‘If you’re on a budget you can try finding a powdered form of it or pure ascorbic acid, but not all skin types can handle this. That is why vitamin C is usually formulated with other ingredients.’

Previously, she has suggested increasing vitamin C, as it is known for treating pigment spots, and introducing retinoids (vitamin A).

‘If it is a recent pigmentation, cell renewal accelerates [via retinoids] will penetrate and break down the pigmentation…unless you have melasma which requires professional treatment,” she said.

“My skin is strangely pretty consistent all year round because I put a lot of effort into it,” she added.

‘If you have a smaller skincare routine you will feel the seasonal change more, but if you have a consistent routine with active ingredients it won’t be necessary. The only thing I might do differently every year is use a lighter moisturizer in the summer.”

Trinny also invests in supplements and takes 25 a day. She also takes a supplement called NMN, which she said works at a “cellular level” and is a longevity supplement

Invest in supplements

Trinny, who only uses her own skin range, is also a big believer in supplements and takes 25 a day. While she admits they aren’t for everyone, she has seen a huge difference in her own routine and mood over time.

Medical professionals should be consulted before trying anything new.

In the morning she takes four or five capsules of INGENIUS Beauty collagen, followed by estrogen, testosterone and Magnolia Rhodiola – she says the latter has changed her mood.
