Trevor Bauer has been berated by his new Japanese team-mate for his disrespectful celebration of drawing a sword.

When Bauer struckout batters in MLB, he made a move that looked like he was sheathing a sword and has continued to do so in foreign games.

Ahead of his first NPB start scheduled for Wednesday, the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, whom he joined in March after being unsigned by any MLB team following domestic violence allegations, shared a video of Bauer encouraging fans to to celebrate with him.

However, Yasuaki Yamasaki, the closing of Yokohama, objected to the celebration on Twitter.

He replied to the team’s Tweet, calling the action “disrespectful” and Bauer an “idiot.”

‘Don’t be an idiot. That’s disrespectful. There are better ways to go about this,” the tweet translated.

Bauer, unsigned by a major league club following claims from domestic violencejoined Yokohama for one year in March.

Bauer was unable to find a major league team to sign him this season, even after an arbitrator reduced his unprecedented 324-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred suspended Bauer last April after a San Diego woman said he beat and sexually assaulted her in 2021. Bauer has said that everything that happened between them was by mutual consent.

He was never charged with a crime and a California judge found the woman’s claims “materially misleading.”

Joining his hometown Dodgers for the 2021 season, Bauer was 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 17 starts before being placed on paid leave. The Dodgers are responsible for $22.5 million of this season’s salary.

Bauer, once one of the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitched his first competitive game in nearly two years on Sunday and said he is almost ready to debut in Japanese baseball after being shunned by major league teams.

Pitching for the Yokohama BayStars minor league-team in nearby Yokosuka, Japan – better known as the home of the United States Seventh Fleet – he gave up four hits, no runs and struckout six in four innings in front of 2,600 fans .

The minor league park usually draws a few hundred spectators. The team said live streaming views reached 77,000 – 15 times the usual 5,000.

“I thought the day went really well,” said Bauer. “The stuff was good, the command was good. Health was good. I feel like I’m ready to compete now, but I need to build up my pitch count.”
