Gareth Southgate is expected to stick with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden for Thursday’s Euro 2024 match against Denmark.
England head coach Southgate raised eyebrows by selecting Liverpool’s vice-captain, who plays as a right-back at club level, in central midfield alongside Declan Rice in Sunday night’s win over Serbia.
Alexander-Arnold was substituted in place of Conor Gallagher in the second half as England looked to complete their victory.
But the Anfield star will be hoping to keep his place in the starting XI for the match against the Danes as Southgate prepares to put his midfield experiment to the test again in what is likely to be an unchanged team.
Similarly, Foden, who faced questions about his place after Sunday’s match, will continue on England’s left, while Kieran Trippier, who appeared to be in some discomfort during the closing stages of the win against Serbia, is set to go play. wins his 50th cap.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw’s will miss the match against Denmark as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The Manchester United left back, who has not played since February due to a hamstring injury, did not train with his teammates on Wednesday.
The FA say Shaw continued his individualized program away from the rest of the squad, and Southgate has since confirmed he will not be included against the Danes.
It was hoped that Shaw would be fit enough to return to action, most likely as a substitute in Thursday’s match or in the final Group C match against Slovenia on Tuesday.
But it now remains to be seen whether Shaw can prove his fitness before the knockout stages begin.
