Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken a closer look at Arsenal’s mentality and suggested they ‘got too excited’ after Liverpool made a mistake in the Premier League title race last weekend.
After beating Manchester City 5-1 against Luton on Saturday, the Gunners then witnessed title rivals Liverpool lose 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace.
But Mikel Arteta’s men were unable to capitalize as they lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa, a result that leaves the title in City’s hands.
Arsenal did return to the top on Saturday evening with a 2-0 win over Wolves and Liverpool – currently third and three points off the top – have the chance to respond at Fulham on Sunday.
Before that match, Alexander-Arnold said Air sports: ‘If those games had been reversed and we played second and Arsenal played first, there might have been a different mentality.

‘It’s all about mentality. I think our result played a role in Arsenal’s result.
“They possibly got too excited and thought this is our chance, this is what we have to do.
‘Maybe they thought about things, whereas if us and City both won they thought ‘we just have to win’ rather than it being an opportunity to break away from the pack.
“None of us have been in a three-horse race, so it’s tough.”
Pep Guardiola’s side, who are chasing a fourth straight title win, are unbeaten in the Premier League since Aston Villa defeated them on December 6, some 18 games ago.
They booked their place in the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, recovering from the disappointment of losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
City also have a decent last six games, playing Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham between now and May 19.

“Arsenal have been through it, we’ve been through it two or three times. When you are in a title race with Man City, they are almost perfect,” he added.
“You can’t make mistakes or mistakes. If you give them the upper hand, they don’t really blink in those moments. They don’t seem vulnerable. It’s a well-oiled machine.
‘That’s what they do, it clicks and they can’t be stopped. Giving them this advantage with six games to go is almost like handing them the title.
‘All we can do is for someone to do us a favor and increase our goal difference.
‘We have six games left, it will fly by. Our goal is to win every match; that’s all we can do and try to capitalize on.

“It will be difficult, but I have seen over the last few weeks that the odds and percentage odds of who will win the competition have fluctuated with just one result. Anything can happen in the Premier League.
“They are a fantastic team with the squad they have, the manager, it’s hard to think they won’t win it at the moment. [But] Stranger things have happened in the Premier League.’
