Wrestling Phillies star Trea Turner has thanked fans for their support on a number of billboards across Philadelphia after receiving standing ovations during their weekend series against the Royals.

Turner has failed to live up to expectations since signing an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Phillies in the off-season, hitting a slash of .236/.291/.378 and a miserable .180/.231/. 328 in his last 15 games.

After impressing at the World Baseball Classic with Team USA in March, the 30-year-old was expected to hit the ground running in Philadelphia and justify his mammoth paycheck.

Yet that was not the case in the first four months of the season, leading manager Rob Thomson to move him to the bottom of the line-up instead of his usual second spot.

Despite his struggles, Phillies fans still stand by Turner and stood by with standing ovations for their No. 7 as they took two wins in their three-game weekend series with the Royals.

And the former Washington Nationals and LA Dodgers shortstop has thanked them for the support by paying for Philadelphia billboards.

NBC Philadelphia’s John Clark shared an image of one of the billboards, which read “Thank you, Philly” next to a photo of Turner.

Turner, who scored a run in Saturday’s 6-9 win, hit rock bottom with the Phillies late last month when he botched an 11th inning ground ball by Josh Bell that could have tied the game, ultimately costing them the game .

However, supporters refused to slander their $300 million man for the blunder and instead rallied around him in a time of need.

One user took to Twitter to call on his fellow fans to get behind Turner, saying, “If you’re coming to a Phillies game this weekend, let’s not boo Trea Turner. Let’s give him a standing ovation every time he comes to bat this weekend.

“My boy is in his head and he needs some love – not tough love, not now, he needs love, love.”

Turner then received a heartwarming reception at Philadelphia’s first meeting with the Royals on Friday, which he later revealed moved his mother to tears on that day.

The underperforming Phillies star said, “I think the fans have made her pretty happy.”
