Travis Kelce’s acting debut in Ryan Murphy’s new FX horror series, Grotesquerie, was a tribute to his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
After weeks of speculation that the show’s third episode was a tribute to the 34-year-old pop star’s 2017 hit Getaway Car, Murphy, 58, confirmed the popular Swiftie theory.
While referencing the scene in which Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, and Niecy Nash-Betts try to escape the hospital together in a dream-like sequence, the prolific producer shared THR that the couple’s “red getaway car” is “a little nod from Taylor Swift.”
As for whether Swift will appear in season two of Grotesquerie or another of Murphy’s projects, the Glee creator revealed that he’s “talked to Taylor’s people about different things over the years.”
“I want to say that I think she’s great and if she ever has time for it, I would do it in a heartbeat,” he enthused. ‘I think she’s one of the greats. I was so shy to talk to Travis about her. But he’s very sweet and respectful about it.’

Murphy went on to say, “They are a pop culture phenomenon. It’s a very interesting dynamic, the way they capture the imagination of the world.’
Murphy also praised Kelce for his ability to “roll up his sleeves” and always be ready to get to work.
In Grotesquerie, Kelce plays Ed Lachlan, a recovering drug addict who works as a nurse and is a potential love interest for Nash-Betts’ character, Detective Lois Tryon.
Ed first meets Lois in the hospital where her husband was in a coma. After finding her sitting on a bench smoking a cigarette, Ed started sweet-talking the detective before she pulled out a bottle and started drinking. He warned her not to get in her car, but she continued driving after drinking.
In the next scene, Lois crashes her car into a pole and wakes up in the hospital with Ed as her nurse. She convinces him to sneak out of the hospital against her doctor’s orders, and he obliges.
In a romantic and flirty sequence, Ed and Lois flee the scene hand in hand before escaping in his red convertible.
The scene sparked the theory on social media that Lois and Ed’s getaway car was a subtle nod to one of Swift’s favorite songs.
Commenting on a clip of the scene on X, formerly known as social media, one fan wrote: “Omg it’s the getaway car!”

‘Lol . Taylor must be laughing right now,” another Swiftie added, referencing the pop icon’s love of Easter eggs, while another chimed in, writing, “Not Taylor’s quick reference.”
Others responded to the link by sharing the song’s famous lyrics, with one writing the opening line: “Nothing good starts in a getaway car,” while another added a snippet of the bridge with the lyrics: “They were jet-setting, Bonnie and Clyde.’
Another fan shared TikTok to highlight the connection, writing over a clip from the episode: “Does this look familiar Swifties?!.”
“This can’t be a coincidence!” the fan wrote in the caption of the post.
Meanwhile, other eagle-eyed fans recognized that the car looked very similar to the convertible in which Kelce and Swift drove away from Arrowhead after attending her first Chiefs game.
“Oh I look familiar except the passenger was a blonde with her hands in the air lol,” one social media user posted.
The couple has recently been spotted on a series of date nights in New York City after surviving their alleged breakup date from a leaked ‘contract’ several weeks ago.
The contract is widely believed to be fake, and Kelce’s camp quickly called it “completely false and fabricated,” but claimed the duo would announce their separation on September 28.
Many fans claimed on social media that Kelce’s scene was a nod to Swift’s 2017 song
The separation date set in the alleged contract has now passed without any fuss and without any news of a split.
Since then, Swift was spotted at some of Kelce’s games and proved that despite the split speculation, their romance is still going strong.
The end of September also marked one year since the couple confirmed and shared their much-publicized romance with the world when Swift attended one of his football matches for the very first time on September 24, 2023.
Between the concerts of the Eras Tour, she makes time to encourage Kelce during his competitions. Conversely, he does the same for her during her shows.

After last year’s AFC title game, Swift took the field to congratulate the tight end with a kiss.
She was also spotted at the Super Bowl game earlier this year to cheer him on in between her Eras Tour concerts in Asia.
