Chiefs star Travis Kelce is now in film production and his first film has received critical acclaim.
Kelce is executive producer of the dark comedy film ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ (as described by IMDb) which recently screened at the Woodstock Film Festival.
And the film won the festival’s Grand Jury Prize for best feature story earlier this month, Term reported.
The project also won the Haskell Wexler Award for Best Cinematography.
Woodstock Film Festival judges also called the film “a striking central performance that delves into the darkness of the human psyche…”
Travis Kelce is executive producer on the award-winning film “My Dead Friend Zoe.”
The film is scheduled for release on February 28 next year – not long after Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
As Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, the film’s writer and director, said ScreenRanttwo of the film’s producers had a connection with someone from Kelce’s team, and it was arranged that Kelce – a known supporter of the military – would be given a script of the military-focused film.
The tight end ultimately decided to support the film, which Hausmann-Stokes called “surreal.”
‘He really brought so much extra attention. And at the end of the day, selfishly, I want people to enjoy this movie, but I want it to create change,” he told ScreenRant.
“So the more eyeballs there are on this movie, there’s going to be a veteran somewhere. I don’t know who they are, but they’re going to see this movie, and it’ll be the little nudge that convinces them to talk about it. Just to talk about it. And I think what Travis has done for us is just a groundswell of energy and fame, and so yeah, we’re so excited to have him.”
The film is about a ‘female Afghanistan veteran com'[ing] face to face with her Vietnam vet grandfather at the family’s ancestral lake home, amid a “mysterious relationship with her late best friend from the military,” according to IMDb.
Travis Kelce’s quiz show ‘Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity’ has premiered on Amazon Prime
Kelce has of course been known as one of the NFL’s best tight ends for quite some time, but his relationship with Taylor Swift over the past year has catapulted him to a new level of fame.
He benefited from this, because he also starred in the TV series ‘Grotesquerie’ and presented “Are you smarter than a celebrity?”
He will also appear in Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’
This week he will focus on the Chiefs vs. Raiders game as Kansas City looks to remain undefeated at 6-0.
