Travis Kelce swaps one football for another as he joins Brittany and Patrick Mahomes to watch Kansas City Current in The Women’s Cup

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce faced two types of football in the same day on Saturday.

After a practice game against the Detroit Lions, Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes showered and headed to a Kansas City Current women’s soccer game.

The Current took on Atletico Madrid’s women’s team in the Women’s Cup final and Chiefs stars were on hand to cheer on the home side.

Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, is a co-owner of the team and the trio watched over the proceedings from a suite.

The Current eventually won the match 1-0, thanks to the boots of Brazilian star Debinha.

Mahomes and Kelce watched as they played a practice football game earlier in the day.

The quarterback completed eight of 14 passes for 93 yards and showed some great stuff.

That included his lone pass to Kelce: an impromptu behind-the-back pass that the tight end recognized, caught and advanced for a gain of eight yards.

While it may have seemed like it came straight out of training camp, it turns out Mahomes had no plans for that move at all.

“Travis didn’t run the route he should have run. I was mad, I was pissed at Travis,” Mahomes explained.

‘Out of pure spite I threw a pass behind me. But now it’s going to be a highlight!’

To be fair, Kelce was then given the right to respond. He responded with a hilarious Kermit the Frog-style imitation of Mahomes.

“It wasn’t a play? No, it was a play… it was a first down,” Kelce responded during his live TV interview when asked about the viral moment, before explaining why he misheard his quarterback

“You know he has a really pretty voice, so he kind of mumbles,” he joked, making a hilarious noise that sounded eerily like something out of The Muppets.

“He was just mumbling the piece, and I couldn’t hear it. I went to the line and tried to understand what he was saying, and the next thing I knew, he threw the ball away.”

The Chiefs eventually lost 24-23 to Detroit, their second home pre-season game.

They get one last chance to get something out of their preparation with a game on August 22 against the Chicago Bears.

Then comes a quick transition to the regular season with a Thursday night game against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.
