Travis Kelce reveals strict diet change ahead of his 35th birthday

Travis Kelce has revealed he’s cutting back on junk food as the Kansas City Chiefs legend looks to extend his NFL career.

Ahead of his 35th birthday this Saturday, Kelce opened up about the strict dietary change he is making to avoid feeling ‘lethargic’ on the field as sweet products are no longer on the menu.

The Chiefs tight end, who was back to his best in their win over the LA Chargers on Sunday, spoke with older brother Jason about his new diet on their New Heights podcast as they discussed a box of donuts they had recently received.

“Good thing they’re there,” he said as Jason held the pastries up to his camera. ‘The yellow boxes are dangerous.’

Travis went on to explain that he’s “at that point in the season” where he needs to “push it away” to stay at the top of his game.

“I just see that gold-glazed donut sitting in the yellow box, I just think, ‘I don’t need it today, I’ll get it tomorrow,’ knowing that they don’t have boxes of donuts every day,” he added.

‘[I] just lie to myself so I don’t just grab ten donuts and run around the corner and stuff my face like a little fat kid.”

Jason, who reflected on his iconic career with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year at the age of 36, said: “It’s a sad day when you’re in your NFL career and you realize you’ve reached that age where you can’t just can eat more what you want.

‘I got into year 12 and I was eating some ice cream and I was trying to play football the next day and I was like, “Oh shit. This is real.”

After bursting out laughing, Travis admitted that eating desserts now makes him feel “lethargic,” before adding, “I just feel like a big blob.” Am I bloated? Do I feel bloated?’

However, Jason has no such plans to watch what he eats.

“I keep eating these wild Buffalo wings and donuts,” the retired Eagles legend laughed.

Travis has had a turbulent start to the new NFL season individually, despite Kansas City winning their first four games.

The three-time Super Bowl winner and friend of Taylor Swift was criticized after a disappointing first three games in which he had just eight catches for 69 yards.

But in Sunday’s win over the Chargers, he was present with 89 yards while setting a franchise record with a 917th reception.

The appearance prompted NFL analyst Tony Romo to declare that “Kelce is back,” while his broadcast partner, the legendary Jim Nantz, insisted, “All good shots, you gotta find someone else to troll this week.”

But Kelce has insisted he still has more to do – including scoring a first touchdown of the season – before celebrating too much.

He told brother Jason, “Everything outside the building is just noise… (but) big game? When is 89 yards a big play? It was a solid game, a big game is like me scoring a touchdown or something.”

“I was responsible for this game, I didn’t have a single drop, which happened in Atlanta, which made me feel like I had a bad game.

“I still didn’t have an excellent game, there’s a lot that goes into having a great game, but I did have seven catches, which is to say, a lot of times you get the rock and I went north with it, so that’s what it is.

“I helped my team find a way to win, and that’s all that will ever matter.”
