Travis Kelce seemed to suggest that brother Jason hasn’t even told him whether or not he’s retiring from football.
Reports first emerged on Tuesday that Jason will end his remarkable NFL career after the Philadelphia Eagles are eliminated from the playoffs.
But Kansas City Chiefs star Travis said “we’re on the edge of our damn seats” as his brother made up his mind.
On their popular New Heights podcast, Jason said, “So I don’t know at this point what the future holds for anyone in that building. We’re about to get into what’s going to happen later: we have exit interviews tomorrow…
Travis then interrupted and added, “And we’ll all be on the edge of our seats waiting to see what decision you’ll ultimately make, big guy. I promise you that.’
Travis Kelce seemed to suggest that brother Jason hasn’t even told him if he’s retiring
Jason was overcome with emotion during this week’s episode as he appeared to confirm he is retiring.
That’s according to NFL insider Adam SchefterThe 36-year-old is set to walk away after a remarkable 13-year career and informed his teammates in the Raymond James Stadium locker room.
Kelce, a father of three, strongly considered retirement late last season and filmed his struggle to make a decision, which later became a popular Amazon Prime documentary.
Ultimately, he decided to keep playing and signed a one-year contract with the Eagles for this season, but was set to become a free agent in March.
But this time it looks like he’s walking away for good, and Kelce seemed overcome with emotion in the final few seconds of his team’s awful 32-9 loss to the Bucs.
The center, a Super Bowl winner, six-time All-Pro and future Hall-of-Fame inductee, turned and hugged offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland as the clock ticked toward zero.
Jason then had an emotional but brief reunion with his family on the pitch – his father, Ed and wife Kylie cheering him on from the front row of the stands.
He waved to them both as he left the pitch and was filmed breaking down in tears during his long and lonely walk back to the dressing room.
Kelce stood in tears on the sidelines in Tampa Bay as his 13-year NFL career came to an end
The Eagles center addressed his teammates after the loss to the Buccaneers on Monday
Kelce politely declined to speak to the media in the locker room after the game — he usually speaks whether the Eagles win or lose — and left the stadium for what appears to be the last time in his career.
It appears to be a sad end to a career in which he will go down in history as one of the game’s greats.
The center won the Super Bowl in 2018 and was famously defeated by his brother last season as the Eagles met the Chiefs in the NFL’s showpiece.
Kelce was drafted by the Eagles in 2011 after playing college football for the Cincinnati Bearcats and has spent his entire career in Philadelphia.
Kelce broke his silence during his latest episode New heights podcast with his brother Travis, in which he says, “I purposely didn’t announce what I was doing – despite what was leaked to the media.
“But I think people can sense body language and stuff. I just don’t think you’re in a position after a game like that to really make that decision. I just don’t.
“There’s too much emotion in the moment, too much happening in the moment to really fully understand that decision.
“I’m not trying to be dramatic and keep pushing this thing forward, it really isn’t.
“It’s just something that I think, when the time comes to officially announce what’s going to happen in the future, it will be done in a way that is definitive and pays respect to a lot of people and individuals who mean a lot to me and which led to the career I have had.”
