Travis Head produced one of Australia’s best cricket innings to silence 130,000 Indian fans and put his side in charge of the Cricket World Cup final.
Earlier in Sunday’s showpiece, Head took a stunning catch to dismiss rival dangerman Rohit Sharma and then stepped up with the bat to score a whopping 100 runs off 95 balls for his side.
Pat Cummins needed his opener to deliver after David Warner, Mitch Marsh and Steve Smith lost their wickets in quick succession, leaving their teammates under the pump in a volatile atmosphere.
Head, alongside Marnus Labuschagne – who was not intimidated by Virat Kohli’s mind games in the middle, steadied the ship and continued the runs in Ahmedabad. India had no answer for the two Australians.

Cummins revealed before the match how his side planned to silence the 130,000-strong crowd in Ahmedabad, and they kept the crowd quiet for much of the first innings after an initial blitz from Rohit Sharma.
But the opener was greedy after smashing Glenn Maxwell’s two boundaries and mistimed his next shot, sending the ball high into the air. Travis Head was on hand to catch excellently.
Australia has a better idea of the hostile conditions in the region than most other countries.
Of their 15-player World Cup squad, 13 have played in the Indian Premier League and since the start of 2019, India has hosted Australia for six white-ball series.
“At this scale, the crowds are probably larger than we would have experienced before, but it’s not something that’s completely foreign to what we’ve had before,” Cummins said.
