Travellers call for child-free flights after young girl disturbs passengers by wearing a LIGHT-UP costume – prompting people to blast her ‘selfish’ parents
People are calling for child-free flights after footage surfaced showing an anonymous child on a plane dressed in a luminous costume, disturbing all other passengers.
The video of the young child, who appears to be no more than five or six years old, was posted on the popular Instagram page, @Sarcasm_onlywhich has about 16 million followers, on August 15.
The six-second clip shows a packed flight of people sitting in a dimly lit cabin, indicating it was a night flight, with the lights off so people can rest. A caption accompanying the footage read, “Imagine being on this flight… I’d be sick.”
And Instagram users around the world didn’t hold back in their criticism of the behavior in the video, which garnered a whopping 8.4 million views, nearly 350,000 likes and more than 6,000 comments.
The comments included some people expressing their frustration at how “selfish” parents can be when they take children on both long-haul and short-haul flights.
Footage has emerged online of some people calling for child-free flights. It shows a child wearing a lit-up costume as people tried to sleep on an airplane
Several passengers sitting in the rows behind the child and her father hang their heads trying to sleep, or look on in bewilderment at the distracting costume the girl is wearing.
As the camera zooms in on the child, she smiles smugly as her white bunny costume flashes busy strobe-like lights around the cabin, illuminating an entire section of the plane.
The incident has enraged people so much that thousands of comments have been left criticizing the “rude” and “negligent” father, with some even calling for the introduction of child-free flights.
One disgruntled user wrote, “What’s worse than kids? Parents,” while another said, “Sick of people not controlling their children in public places.”
Another person added: ‘It’s selfish and in very bad taste. Shame on those parents.’
An annoyed user said bluntly, “If the parent refuses to take that from the child, the child will learn the truth about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy in less than six minutes.”
Others called for child-free flights, with one writing, “I vote for adult-only flights. I would pay extra for adult only flights.”
Another user agreed, commenting, “This is why we need adult-only flights. I’d gladly pay more for it.’

Some users were concerned about people with epilepsy and other medical conditions, with one of them writing, “Absolutely not. While the parents may think this is cute, what about people with medical issues?’
Another said: ‘Can cause seizures in an epileptic, so it’s not cute. Educate yourself and your children. The world doesn’t revolve around you.’
A final commenter wrote: ‘Forget about people being sick, it’s just rude. When the lights are off, I think it’s a nightlight, which means some people want to catch up on some sleep. A lack of respect and education.’
This comes after a thread broke out on Reddit in 2019 when users were invited to list the complaints they have about their fellow passengers on planes.
The list of annoyances was huge, from seats that reclined to kids playing video games with the volume turned up and from passengers in the back trying to get out first to reading over someone’s shoulder.
