Traveler kicked off Delta flight because she has food allergies

A traveler has claimed she was kicked off a Delta flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Boston, Massachusetts after informing airline officials that she has a food allergy.

TikToker Ellie Brellis told her followers through tears how she had tickets for a flight back to her hometown on Sunday so she could see a doctor the next morning, ‘because I have really bad allergies at the moment.’

She said she had recently had an allergic reaction, which she described as a “mild anaphylactic shock compared to other reactions I’ve had,” and tried to explain the situation to a flight official.

“I did everything I had to do to advocate for myself so I could have a safe flight,” Brellis said in the video from the gate, which had been viewed more than 79,000 times as of Tuesday evening.

But she said she felt dismissed by an airline employee when she grew tired of disclosing her allergy information, and was eventually kicked off the plane — even though her bags were still traveling.

Brellis even turned the camera to show a plane taking off at the airport and claimed she would be on the run.

“Somehow I just got kicked off the plane because I have an allergy,” Brellis said, noting that food allergies are considered a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“I don’t want to be this person, I don’t want to cry, I just want to be on my flight home so I can see my doctor and figure out why this is happening,” she said, before questioning whether she was the one who caused the blamed for the ordeal.

‘Am I the hole?’ the TikToker asked. ‘Is this my fault? Shouldn’t I have said I have an allergy?’

“I don’t know how to be safe,” Brellis said.

In a follow-up video, Brellis said staff rebooked her for a redeye flight, but she had to get a doctor’s clearance before she could travel

In a follow-up video, Brellis said she was actually on board the plane when crew members “escorted me away.”

She said she has since been told she had booked a Redeye flight, “but it’s a full flight, so they gave me an aisle seat, but they can’t guarantee any safety or anything.”

Brellis also claimed that Delta officials told her they needed to call Medair and have her speak to a doctor who would determine if she was “fit to fly.”

“What the hell?” said the tearful traveler. ‘I’ve flown all my life, I’ve always been fit to fly, until I flew to LA and had an allergic reaction, and they didn’t help me in the way I needed to get help.

“I don’t understand,” she said.

But some online appeared to have sided with the airline.

Delta’s website recommends that passengers with allergies fill out a form before the flight or call the Accessibility Services team to notify them

Another TikToker said she has airborne nut allergies and has to call before her flight to let staff members know

“I’m sorry you’re going through this,” one person commented on her original video. ‘They were afraid that you could get anaphylaxis on the plane.

“If there was any exposure, they wouldn’t accept that responsibility.”

Another user said she has allergies to airborne nuts and ‘with Delta I have to call before my flight to put it on my bill every time, ask [a] gate agent for pre-boarding and tell the [flight attendants].’

In fact, Delta’s website recommends passengers with allergies fill out a form or call the Accessibility Services team before the flight to notify them.

“While we cannot guarantee a peanut or allergen-free flight or prohibit other customers from carrying these products on board, we strive to make reasonable adjustments for your needs,” it said.
