Travel influencer, 33, reveals she was left ‘fighting for her life’ after getting ELECTROCUTED in a ‘freak accident’ during luxury trip to Thailand

A US-based travel influencer has revealed she had to 'fight for her life' after being electrocuted in a 'freak accident' in Thailand.

Cara Hodgson, 33, a social media star and orthodontist from Los Angeles, California, was 'rushed to the emergency room' and forced to spend ten days 'in and out of hospitals' after experiencing a horrific accident during a visit to the Asian country.

According to the content creator, she was “electrocuted by power lines” in what she described as a “freak accident” in a post she shared to her Instagram account on Monday.

And while she's now back home in the United States, she explained that she's “still not out of the woods” and will have to make some “major lifestyle changes” so she can “regain her strength.”

'Life is so precious. One second you have it, and the next second it can just be taken away from you.

'During my trip I had a freak accident and was electrocuted by high-voltage cables. I ended up blacking out and was rushed to the emergency room in Thailand.

'It was the worst ten days of my life: going in and out of hospitals, fighting to regain my strength and fighting for my life. I feel so lucky to be here today.”

Cara shared a carousel of images, including one of her lying in a hospital bed and another showing the IV in her arm.

Another recording was of a note she wrote to herself on a piece of paper while in the hospital, which read, “Today is the first day I can eat and sit up in bed.

'I've been to four hospitals now. I am strong. I'll get through this. I have to. I have so much more life to live, so much more love to give, so much of the world to see, and so many more smiles to make.

“Every text and message, even when I was too weak to respond, made all the difference in keeping me fighting when I was losing hope.”

She concluded her message with a reflection on what she learned from the experience.

'2023, you taught me something that I think we all need to be reminded of when we get caught up in the little things: what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love have,” she stated.

'Just being alive, being able to breathe, eat, talk and move is something great and something to be celebrated.'

On her Instagram Stories, Cara shed some more light on her journey, explaining that she “still doesn't have much energy to type out everything she's been through.”

“I'm still not out of the woods,” she admitted. “There will be a lot of upcoming doctor appointments and major lifestyle changes.

“I need to regain my strength and weight, and I need a lot of help to recover from the PTSD of it all.

“There are still unanswered questions, but I'm so grateful to be here.”

Before the life-threatening incident, Cara — who has amassed 25,000 followers on Instagram and 97,000 on TikTok for documenting her travels and sharing dental hygiene tips — posted a slew of content from her trip to Thailand.

'One day at university you are sitting on the floor together, eating ramen and talking about your dreams of traveling. Next time you'll have a floating breakfast together in Phuket and have three more trips planned next year,” she wrote in a video of her and her husband, Robert, enjoying a meal together in a pool.

In another clip, she sat on the edge of a boat in Wang Long Bay, Thailand, saying it “looked straight out of a fantasy book.”

She also captioned a photo of herself standing on a beach with pink hair extensions: “I've always wanted to be a mermaid. Got to be one in the Phi Phi Islands, where every moment is a postcard.”
