Travel agent Brittany McCrystal, 27, shares the meals she ate to shed a staggering 20kg

A travel agent-turned-fitness trainer who had “tried every fad diet under the sun” before losing an incredible 20kg has spilled the exact foods she ate to lose weight.

Brittany McCrystal, 27, who is from New Zealand but lives in Sydney, tipped the scales at 82kg after she got a desk job near a food court and started “partying too much”.

Despite trying to eat healthily, Brittany said she had “horrible binge eating and drinking habits”, dieting only to lose control and gain all the weight back.

However, after abandoning her all-or-nothing approach and focusing on a “back to basics” plan centered on nutrient-dense, whole foods and regular exercise, Brittany has lost an incredible 20kg in just nine months.

Brittany said that at breakfast time, she typically ate foods like baked eggs with turkey bacon or ham and egg breakfast tacos.

Because she loved McDonald’s, the 27-year-old also used to make a ‘fake’ McMuffin with bread and healthy ingredients.

Another of Brittany’s favorites is Biscoff and Banana Baked Oatmeal, as well as more conventional and healthy options like Avocado Scrambled Eggs, Peanut Butter Protein Oatmeal, and a Mixed Berry Protein Shake.

At lunch, Brittany said typical choices are pizza wraps, cheesy chicken quesadillas, crispy chicken salad, spicy tuna rice bowls and avocado pita bread.

Dinner is an equally tasty affair, usually comprising something like creamy chicken pasta, stuffed potatoes with mincemeat, shrimp tacos, red curry prawns, or steak and fries.

She also ate cookie dough protein balls, fresh fruit, yogurt and sugar-free hot chocolate, saying you don’t need to deny yourself to reach your goals.

Britt said the only phase of the diet you should skip is the “chicken and rice” phase:

“I lost 20kg and ate tasty and delicious food every day,” she said, adding that you don’t need to eat boring food to lose weight.

Speaking previously to FEMAIL, Brittany said that before she lost the weight, she was in a “bad place” with her mental health.

‘I was afraid of carbohydrates because I thought they would make me fat. I also go on and off the keto diet because I initially saw results and then it just stopped working,’ he told FEMAIL.

The 27-year-old recalled having “severe panic attacks” and hid her body in “long, baggy clothing.”

Worse than this, Brittany’s energy levels were ‘really suffering’ and she had to seek help from a specialist to deal with her fatigue.

Brittany said her previous diet consisted of no breakfast, a vending machine snack like chips, giant helpings of leftovers for lunch, and big meals at dinner followed by ice cream.

However, when she stepped on the scale at a friend’s house and saw the number staring back at her, she knew she needed to change.

The 27-year-old (pictured) said weight loss needs to be slow and steady as there is no quick and instant fix.

To lose weight, Brittany completely overhauled her eating, replacing take-out meals and huge portions with nutritious yet healthy meals and snacks.

“Now I eat amazing, tasty food that makes me feel good afterwards,” she said.

‘I take typical foods and give them a more nutritious twist.

“For example, this morning I had Biscoff and Banana Baked Oatmeal, lunch was fresh spring rolls, and for dinner I had homemade nachos made with tortillas.”

Brittany said she’s learned that being on a health journey “doesn’t have to suck and you don’t have to cut out all the foods you love.”

“It’s all about finding the perfect balance between a blend of whole foods and soul food, and never labeling a food as good or bad,” she said.

“Food is just food, and when you apply a label, it makes you feel guilty, which can lead to restriction and then bingeing.”

To lose weight, Brittany completely overhauled her eating, replacing take-out meals and huge portions with nutritious yet healthy meals and snacks, and exercising too.

In addition to healthy eating, the 27-year-old aims to train five days a week for one hour and take 10,000 steps a day.

“I was never into working out until I found a program that I love and now it’s just a habit and I love how it makes me feel,” she said.

Her review has also led her to change careers.

Brittany’s tips for lasting weight loss

Brittany is now a fitness coach and created her own ‘BrittFit’ fitness app, which has hundreds of healthy recipes and workout routines.

“I’m also going to compete in my first WBFF Bikini Show in July,” she added.

“I do it because I want to show the world my transformation and know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”

The fitness trainer shared her weight loss tips with FEMAIL, explaining that the key is to go slow and steady.

“Get rid of fad diets and restrictions, they are designed to steal your happiness,” said Brittany.

“You also need to be clear about your goals, as starting a healthy eating plan without a clearly defined goal is like driving to a new location without putting the destination on Google maps.”

His second piece of advice is to stop looking for quick fixes and instead focus on “one thing at a time.”

‘Small steps lead to big results. If you want to change your body forever, then you need to change your lifestyle,” she added.

Finally, Brittany advised having a plan that is “designed for you and only you” since “everyone’s goals are different, so finding a random diet and workout on Google won’t get you results.”

‘Don’t give up,’ she said.

“It gets easier and you learn a lot along the way.”
