Traumatized New Mexico family held at gunpoint by a Bernalillo cop Jeramie Nevarez for speeding while trying to rush their injured dog to the vet after it was run over
A traumatized New Mexico family was held at gunpoint by a police officer for speeding while trying to take their bloodied and bruised dog to the vet after he was run over by a car.
Tara and William Albrecht and their teenage son, Remi, 16, were driving Route 550 through Bernalillo from their Rio Ranch home to bring their labradoodle, Stella, to the 24-hour emergency veterinarian after their dog was hit.
The puppy was seriously injured and bleeding from the head as William raced against time to save their dying pet. But things went wrong when they were stopped by a Bernalillo police officer, identified as Jeramie Nevarez, who held the family at gunpoint along the busy highway during the incident. July 19.
The harrowing ordeal was captured on the officer’s lapel video which showed him pointing a gun at William before turning the gun on his wife and son.
During the video, he is seen yelling at William to “get out of the vehicle!” » before he orders her to get on her knees! as he pleads that his dog “is going to die!” and said to him: “Sir, my dog is bleeding from the mouth.”
Nevarez responded, “I don’t care!” before the police officers who arrived on the scene intervened and he was finally released.
Unfortunately, Stella did not survive and died shortly after arriving at the vet. The family is now considering filing a complaint against the police.

Stella, the labradoodle, was hit by a speeding car and died in July. The family was taking him to the vet when they were arrested.

During the ordeal, Tara and her son watched in horror and disbelief as the police officer ordered their loved one to walk toward oncoming traffic and get down on their knees.
“Go back, go left!” » Officer Nevarez shouted. ‘Fuck faster! Get on your knees!’, the video reveals.
William cooperated and had his hands in the air as the officer continued to shout orders telling him to “Face the f*** away from me!”
While William tried to explain to the officer what happened to their dog, they said the officer never approached the family’s car.
It’s unclear why the officers pointed the gun at the family or believed they posed a dangerous threat.
When DailyMail.com contacted the Bernalillo Police Department to inquire whether Officer Nevarez or any of the other officers had been reprimanded, they were unavailable for comment.
William told the local station KRQE: “I imagined that if he was going to stop me for speeding, I would stop,” he said.
“He would tell me something and maybe even help us get there. You know, I’ve heard stories like this before, but it didn’t happen.
Mother and son were panicked when William’s wife began recording the horrific events on her phone. At one point, he is heard telling his son to roll down the window. Part of the footage shows her husband being ordered to move away from the family car.
“I think it’s amazing,” she told the outlet. “I can’t believe it’s like someone didn’t just come to us, find out why we were speeding and help us?”
When other officers arrived, she was panicked and worried for the safety of her child and husband.
The footage shows three police officers arriving and continuing their criminal stop, as they pointed guns at the family and shouted: “Hands up!” »
The heartbreaking scene was captured on cops’ bodycam and showed the terrified family being detained.
William revealed he was concerned for his family’s well-being as he recalled some of the terrifying events of that day. “I saw my son was also putting his hands out the window, like, man, our dog is going to die,” he said. ‘I was afraid. I was really scared’
Video footage shows Tara desperately pleading with officers as she held her bleeding and bruised dog, the serious injuries her pup had suffered.

She filmed the disturbing exchange on her phone as she tried to tell police a second time: “Sir, look, she’s bleeding! Look at my dog, she’s bleeding from her face and they’re holding us on the side of the road.
William’s shirtless teenage son was ordered out of the vehicle and had his hands in the air as he told police: “Our dog is going to die!”
The boy explained to police the severity of his dog’s injuries and the fact that she was bleeding from the head.
He pointed in the direction of the car where his mother was sitting and where his sick dog was, but William said: “Neither of them seemed to care at all at the moment.”
William revealed how concerned he was for his family’s well-being as he recalled some of the terrifying events of that day.
“I saw my son was also putting his hands out the window, like, man, our dog is going to die,” he said. ‘I was afraid. I was really scared.
At one point during the stop, Officer Nevarez asked the officers to direct William’s son to the patrol car. Exacerbated, he said, “I can’t believe you’re doing this, sir,” he said.
Nevarez replied: “Jesus, fucking Christ, man!” “.
Another police officer at the scene eventually convinced Nevarez to let the family leave.
“Let them get out of here,” the officer told Nevarez before placing the call on his radio to alert responding units.
As police removed William’s handcuffs, he told Nevarez, “Dude, you’re something else, man.”
Officer Nevarez responded, “You are something else, sir.
Before leaving, he told them “that wasn’t necessary,” before Navarez responded, “Good luck with your dog,” as the patrol car door slammed.
The family dog, Stella, did not survive and died shortly after they arrived at the vet.
The grieving dog mum said: “It’s horrible… he was such a great dog.”
Meanwhile, the arresting officer wrote in his report that William was driving at high speed and recklessly. William never received a citation and there is no video of a chase.
In the officer’s report, he said, “I drew my department-issued firearm and pointed it at the immediate threat.” I yelled at the driver to get back in the vehicle.
The officer also wrote that William “looked crazy with his hands clenched in the air.”
William told the outlet he has always supported law enforcement, but said he is still trying to understand what triggered the felony arrest.
He shared the terror he felt when he saw the gun pointed at his son’s head. “I really felt like when I got out of the car, this guy might shoot me if I did something wrong.”
He added: “I would never put my son in such a situation. »
“I support blue. I support blue. Like, I always want to show him that, you know, you submit to these guys. That you’re supposed to be able to trust them, William said.
The family recalled the trauma. “What have we done to warrant having guns pointed at our heads?” » Williams said.
