The secretary of Victoria’s influential Transport Workers Union (TWU) has been sacked amid allegations of intimidating behaviour.
A TWU spokeswoman confirmed the union became aware late on Friday of allegations against current secretary Mem Suleyman, a leader of the Victorian branch of the transport union.
Mr Suleyman reportedly received a letter from the department’s executive committee stating that he was being dismissed pending an investigation.
“The TWU strives for the highest levels of management,” said the spokeswoman.
‘The union cannot yet assess the allegations and wants clarification this weekend.’
Mr Suleyman declined to comment when contacted by Weekend Australian. Instead, he said: ‘The national union will respond.’
Mr Suleyman has been serving as Secretary for the TWU Victoria Branch for the past seven months.
He is the brother of Natalie Suleyman, MP for Victoria, who holds the seat of St Albans.
A TWU spokeswoman confirmed the union had been made aware of allegations surrounding its current secretary Mem Suleyman – a heavyweight at the Victorian branch of the transport union – late on Friday night
