Transgender applicant for lifeguard job in Florida is rejected after exposing their breasts

Transgender lifeguard job applicant is rejected after exposing their poolside breasts to kids during Florida tryouts

  • Cecil Aquatic Center in Jacksonville, Florida held a session on April 27 for those hoping to be hired as lifeguards
  • During the tryout, a transgender man, who was born female and had no top surgery, took off their top and exposed their breasts to the crowded pool crowd
  • The trans person will not be hired: Mayor Lenny Curry said he refused to impose a compromise solution where all lifeguards cover their chests

The mayor of Jacksonville, Florida has refused to admit to “wokeism” and ordered the city’s lifeguards to cover their breasts after a transgender person hoping to get hired at a city pool exposed their breasts.

The transgender, who has not been named, attended a trial session for lifeguard hopefuls at the Cecil Aquatic Center on April 27.

During the tryout, the female-born person, who identifies as male but has not had top surgery, exposed their breasts and tried not to cover herself.

Children were within 15 to 20 feet of lifeguard training and the nudity was in ‘plain sight,’ sources said Florida’s voice.

The incident happened to a group of 21 lifeguards in training aged 15 and older.

Florida’s Voice reported that the situation occurred during the swimming portion of practice.

Jacksonville mayor Lenny Curry said the behavior was unacceptable

Jacksonville Republican mayor Lenny Curry said families who were in the pool at the time complained. The trans person has not been hired, Action News Jax reported.

“Because of a citizen’s concern, my administration was made aware of an incident where a biological female intern in a lifeguard program was topless in one of our public pools,” Curry said.

“After considering the incident, I think it is wrong for our public pools to be a place where families in Jacksonville are forced to explain to their children why a person hired to protect public safety exposes her breasts. ‘

Curry said he didn’t think it was right to introduce a compromise solution that would require all lifeguards — men, women and transgender people — to cover their chests.

“I see no reason for our lifeguards to be forced to make changes to existing rules requiring biological females to cover their chests,” he said.

“Our parks and public pools are meant to be a place where families can feel safe to enjoy themselves.

“We shouldn’t force parents of young children to get caught in the crossfire of battles over wakeism.”

Still, Cielo Sunsarae, the executive director and founder of Queer Trans Project, accused Curry of overreacting.

Cielo Sunsarae told local news Action News Jax that they believed Curry had overreacted

“Kids don’t sexualize breasts, it’s the adults who make it bigger than it is,” Sunsarae told Action News Jax.

“What’s the difference if the person had top surgery or not?”

Florida is building a reputation as a frontline of culture wars, with Governor Ron DeSantis proudly declaring that his state is a “wake to die” place.

The Florida state legislature this week passed a “bathroom law” that prohibits transgender people from using public restrooms that don’t match the gender on their birth certificates.

The measure will now go to DeSantis’ office for final approval.
