Trans for Trump: Meet the Americans who changed gender and voted Republican for ‘common sense’ reasons

Former transgender liberal Americans cast their votes for President-elect Donald Trump this year because they feared Democrats would push gender-affirming care on minors.

Speaking to DailyMail.com, the detransitioners – who voted Republican for the first time – said they supported Trump’s view that gender treatments such as puberty blockers, hormones and gender reassignment surgery should be banned for people under the age of 18.

Republicans called for this on the campaign trail in a $200 million ad blitz, and have said they would end taxpayer funding for gender reassignment treatments at all ages and bar transgender people from joining the military.

Although Democrats’ position has been that they would not impose treatment plans on doctors, they have recently shifted their position to say that children should not undergo gender reassignment surgery at all.

Chloe Cole, who started transitioning to a boy at age 12, said on X: “I am a strong, intelligent woman. I voted for Donald Trump.”

Ms Cole, now 20 years old, stopped her transition at the age of 17 – but not before doctors prescribed her puberty blockers and testosterone and removed her breasts.

She continued, “When I was fifteen years old, I lost my breasts in the name of gender ideology. My body will never be the same because of radical left policies. I support Donald Trump because he will end gender transition for minors.”

Similarly, Nicolas Blooms – who started transitioning at age 18 and transitioned at age 22 – also said he supported Donald Trump. The now 24-year-old said he used feminizing hormones but never had surgery.

Chloe Cole, who started transitioning at age 12 and transitioned at age 17, also said she supported Donald Trump in the election. She openly speaks out for her activism against transgender care for minors

He told DailyMail.com: ‘The main reason why I voted Donald Trump I don’t want children to have to go through a medical transition from such a young age.

“Donald Trump recently posted a video saying he wants to make gender reassignment for minors illegal. I support that 100 percent.

“I believe that after medical transition and detransition, this is not something children should be playing with.”

Mr Blooms said the hormone therapy was causing him to have to go to the toilet regularly and fat had built up on his chest.

And Laura Becker, who transitioned at age 17 before transitioning at age 22, also supported Trump, saying, “If we can’t agree on the objective truth, if we can’t agree about objective biological reality and agreeing that we shouldn’t lie to people about who we are… then that’s a red flag to me.

“Kamala cannot be realistic about biological sex, and we already know that her administration, including her Vice President Tim Walz, has advocated for children to transition.”

Many of the detransitioners who spoke to DailyMail.com – initially far-left activists – said they felt a majority of people in similar situations supported Trump in this election and voted Republican for the first time.

A poll on X by detransitioner Prisha Mosley, calling for only detransitioners to vote, received 45 responses. Fifty-eight percent of the group supported Trump, while only seven percent supported Kamala.

Another 35 percent did not vote. The poll was not closed and anyone could respond.

The Trump campaign made opposition to transgender care for minors part of its campaign, saying in an ad that Kamala was for “they/them,” referring to pronouns used by people who do not identify as male or female.

Trump has said he plans to end the ‘chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of our youth by passing a law banning transgender care for minors in all fifty states.’

Kamala Harris, on the other hand, tried to sidestep the issue when she was asked her opinion in an interview with NBC News in October.

She said she would not put herself in the place of doctors who would have to make the decision “in terms of what is medically necessary.”

At least 800 children ages 12 to 18 undergo gender confirmation surgery in the U.S. every year. according to a 2023 JAMA study which analyzed data from almost every state. The vast majority underwent breast or breast surgery.

Many detransitioners have argued that the modern medical system tried to transition them when all they needed was therapy and help for their mental health.

But advocates of transgender care for minors argue it is medically necessary, saying research shows children will commit suicide if denied care.

A 2022 study from the University of Toronto suggested that 82 percent of transgender people have considered suicide and 40 percent have attempted suicide.

But many doctors also warn that the effects of gender-affirming treatments on people, especially children, are poorly studied and can lead to lifelong complications. They also say they may not improve children’s mental health.

Other detransitioners to express support for Trump included Maia Poet. She started transitioning when she was 12 years old

Trump also plans to reinstate his ban on transgender service members, which was lifted by the Biden administration in 2020. The military is a major employer of transgender people, with more than 15,000 transgender people.

Furthermore, the president-elect has suggested that he will eliminate legislation that protects against discrimination based on sexuality or gender identity.

Detransitioners who have attended Trump rallies said they did not face discrimination.

Mr. Bloom, who lives in Arizona, said, “As much as people want to say the MAGA people are homophobic and transphobic, the vast majority of them just don’t care.

‘They don’t care that I’m gay, they love that I’m gay – it’s so liberating.

‘While liberals just look at me with dirty looks. I face harassment, I face homophobia, I face bullying from liberals even though all they talk about is love and compassion.”

He added, “It was hard for me to see friends voting for Kamala. There were a lot of people blocking me. As much as they think they are being compassionate, they are not. They were unable to withhold judgment and actually listen.”

According to estimates, approximately 1.6 to 3 million people in the United States identify as transgender.
