Train break silence over Charlie Colin death as they praise ‘legend’ bassist in heartfelt tribute after he passes away at 58: ‘I always tried to pull him closer but he had a vision of his own’

Charlie Colin’s former bandmates in the hit band Train remembered their fallen friend after his death at the age of 58 was reported on Wednesday.

In a post shared on the group’s Instagram page, the members called Colin “the sweetest man” and alluded to the bassist’s departure from the band in 2003, which was reportedly precipitated by his content issues.

The message included a black and white photo of an early lineup of the band, which at the time consisted of vocalist Pat Monahan, lead guitarist Jimmy Stafford, rhythm guitarist Rob Hotchkiss and drummer Scott Underwood, as well as Colin.

Colin’s mother confirmed the tragic news of his death, saying the Drops Of Jupiter musician “slipped and fell in the shower,” according to TMZ.

The caption for the tribute from the surviving members of Train is written in first person, although it is unclear whether it was written by the group’s frontman Monahan or if another member of the group spoke on behalf of everyone.

‘When I met Charlie Colin, front left, I fell in love with him. He was THE sweetest man and what a handsome guy,” they wrote. “Let’s make a bond that’s the only reasonable thing we can do.

“His unique bass playing and beautiful guitar work made people notice us in SF and beyond. I will always have a warm place for him in my heart,” they continued. ‘I always tried to draw him closer to me, but he had his own vision. You’re a legend, Charlie. Go charm the pants off those angels,” the post concluded.

DailyMail.com has contacted a Train representative for comment.

The photo shared by the band proved to be deeply meaningful to the members, as they all wore T-shirts signifying a number one Billboard hit.

The shirts may have been a tribute to the band’s single Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) from their second album, 2001’s Drops Of Jupiter.

The song reached number one on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs and the Adult Top 40, marking the group’s first hit, and it reached number five on the Hot 100 singles chart.

The band also topped Billboard’s Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40 and Adult Alternative Songs charts in 2003 with the single Calling All Angels, from third album My Private Nation, which would have been the band’s last chart-topper since Colin’s tenure in the band.

The tragic incident is said to have occurred while Colin – a former bassist for the band – was house-sitting for a friend in Belgium. It is currently unclear when exactly he died.

‘They were not happy with the choice. “They were very clear that I was putting them in a very difficult position,” he said at the time.

The ultimatum came after Colin was “a mess” during a live performance in Oregon, Monahan said.

It’s one of those things where you feel like it’s too good to be true. Most bands have a lifespan of a few years.’
