Tragic tale of Punxsutawney Phil who ‘drinks an elixir every summer so he can stay alive forever’ but must watch groundhog wife Phyliss grow old and die inspires Broadway-worthy online musical number

TikTok users have been creating Broadway-worthy musical numbers after discovering the terrible fate of Punxsutawney Phil’s weather-predicting wife, Phyliss.

Punxsutawney Phil is the groundhog best known for making an annual weather forecast on Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

On February 2, Phil predicted an early spring during the country’s largest and most famous Groundhog Day celebration in Gobblers Knob.

A day after the prediction, Oliver Richman, an actor and singer, posted a TikTok revealing Phil’s wife and Phyliss’ sad fate.

On February 2, Phil predicted an early spring at the country’s largest and most famous Groundhog Day celebration at Gobbler’s Knob.

He composed a song based on the ancient myth that Phil has been alive since 1886 and gets a sip of the “elixir of life” every Groundhog Day, which extends his life by seven years.

But unfortunately, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, Phyliss, his wife, isn’t offered the same elixir and doesn’t get her own immortality.

In a FAQ section, the Club wrote: ‘Her name is Phyliss. She doesn’t receive the Elixir of Life, so she won’t live forever like Phil.”

Some of Richman’s lyrics, written from Phil’s point of view, include: “Nothing should live forever, Phyliss.

“Nothing should take this long. The dens we made will eventually fade away and I’ll have to sing the same old song.”

The TikTok video currently has five million views and almost 550,000 likes.

After Richman’s video went viral, many other users started debuting the video and creating songs from Phyliss’ point of view.

A user called Joy, whose video has been viewed more than a million times, was heard singing: ‘No, you made the decision for me Phil, I have to do this for myself.

‘This isn’t what I want, Phil. You have no choice for me, Phil.”

The idea has spread so much that there is now a ‘Groundhog Day Musical’ making the rounds on the social media app.

When he’s not eating vegetables or spending time with his wife Phyliss, the club stated that Phil “likes to read a good book and the newspaper.”

One user criticized Phil for lying about the early arrival of spring so he could “impress them/live forever,” while many others wrote songs as the mayor of Punxsutawney.

This isn’t the first time TikTok has almost produced its own Broadway show. In 2020, users came together to create “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical,” based on the 2007 Disney film Ratatouille.

In 2021, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear created ‘The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical’, based on season 1 of the show on Netflix.

The duo won the 2022 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, but were later sued by Netflix.
