Tragic ending for bull rider filmed being hurled off bull and trampled to the ground

A bull rider has been killed after being trampled by a bull during a rodeo show in the western Brazilian city of Fátima do Sul.

Shocking video footage shows Fabiano Pinheiro riding the bull, known as ‘Safra Nova’, for around 13 seconds before being thrown off during a competition at the Fátima Fest on Monday night.

The 36-year-old man was kicked in the neck by the bull’s two hind legs as he fell to the ground, but somehow managed to get up on his own.

Three bull riders try to fend off ‘Safra Nova’ as Pinheiro climbs over the gate.

A few moments later the second gate opened and the bull himself entered.

Pinheiro was treated at the scene but died before reaching hospital.

“He was hit by the bull and was able to walk, but a few moments later he became ill, was rescued and died on the way to the hospital,” Cristiano Hein, chief of police in Mato Grosso do Sul, told Brazilian news via G1.

Pinheiro lived in Junqueirópolis, a city in the southeastern state of São Paulo, and traveled to participate in the Fátima Fest.

He often shared photos of his work with animals on a farm and of the bull riding competitions he participated in.

João Sampati, a municipal councillor for Fátima do Sul, regretted Pinheiro’s death.

“We deeply regret the loss of Fabiano Pinheiro Rocha and offer our condolences and support to his family and friends,” Sampati wrote on Facebook.

“This is a difficult time for all of us. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy at Fátima Fest.”

“He died doing what he loved most, just like that man who wanted to climb the highest mountain, had an accident and died,” one woman wrote on social media, referring to Brazilian Marcelo Delvaux, who fell into the crater of Nevado Coropuna — Peru’s fourth-highest peak — and was found dead on Sunday.

“Everyone takes responsibility for their actions, there is no one to blame,” she added.

Pinheiro was buried on Wednesday morning.
