Tragic end in search for missing newlywed nurse in Portland as neighbor is arrested

A Portland nurse who recently married was found dead after being reported missing earlier this week.

Officials found the remains of Melissa Jubane, 32, three days after her co-workers, friends and neighbors reported her missing, an unusual occurrence for the dedicated nurse.

Concerns were raised about her safety after she failed to report for her morning shift at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland on September 4.

Well-wishers quickly called police and around 10 a.m., officers went to Melissa’s residence at 1050 SW 160th Avenue in Beaverton to conduct a welfare check.

“Upon arrival, officers were met by apartment complex staff and searched Melissa’s apartment. Melissa was not present and her absence without communication was considered unusual and alarming,” Beaverton police explained in a Facebook post.

Later that day, Melissa was listed as a missing person in national police databases.

After her remains were found, authorities also arrested her 27-year-old Beaverton neighbor, Bryce Johnathan Schubert, on suspicion of murder.

According to Fox12From September 2022 to October 2023, Schubert worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center.

The suspect was not employed at Providence St. Vincent, where Melissa worked.

“She is very humble, she is very beautiful, she is smart, she is very intelligent and very respectful. She is like a daughter to me, she is very close to me,” said Imelda Llantero, her mother-in-law.

Schubert is currently being held in Washington County, Oregon. No trial date has been set.

Officials have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
