Sam Kerr has broken her silence after her grandmother was struck by a ute on Friday.
Coral Kerr, 89, is said to have stepped off a bus in the suburb of Palmyra at around 11am when the incident occurred.
The 63-year-old driver mounted the curb in an attempt to overtake the bus before hitting the 89-year-old.
The incident took place just meters away from Coral’s house. She was then taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition, where she underwent surgery for a broken femur, ankle and hip. She probably also suffered a concussion during the crash.
A 63-year-old man has been charged following the incident and will appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court in Western Australia on February 4.
Kerr and her father, Roger, had flown to New South Wales to celebrate the wedding of Matildas teammate Emily Van Egmond and her partner Kat Thompson.
The couple are said to have heard the news at the wedding reception and then flew back to Perth.

The ute is said to have driven onto the footpath in an attempt to overtake the bus, where it struck an electricity pole before hitting Ms Kerr.
Kerr took to social media to thank her followers for their support after the incident
In heartbreaking circumstances for the Kerr family, the incident occurred at the same intersection where Coral’s husband, Denzil, a former featherweight boxer, was tragically hit by a car and killed 20 years ago, according to reports 9News.
Kerr then took to Instagram to thank fans on social media for their support.
“Thanks for all the messages, love and prayers for my nan x,” the Chelsea player posted on her Instagram Story.
Coral’s neighbor, Mary Ivey, recounted the moment the incident occurred.
“She was one side of the road and he was the other, so it’s really a tragic coincidence,” said neighbor Mary Ivey.
After coming to her aid, Ivey said, “She came up to me and recognized me.
‘And [she] was able to talk to us and let us know she was in pain.”
Kerr’s father, Roger, was unable to provide an update on his mother’s situation after arriving in Perth, but said his daughter was shocked by the incident.
Kerr was at the wedding of Matildas teammate Emily van Egmond to her father Roger when she heard about the crash in Perth.

“She’s a little shocked,” Roger told reporters, speaking of his daughter Sam.
“She went straight there to visit her grandmother, and we will follow.”
Footage of the incident shows the ute, which is said to have hit Kerr’s grandmother, suffered extensive damage to the bonnet after hitting a utility pole before hitting Coral.
The news comes after the Chelsea forward and her partner Kristie Mewis, who plays for West Ham, announced they were expecting a baby.
They had returned to Perth earlier this month to celebrate Christmas with Kerr’s family.
Kerr is currently sidelined until approximately March 2025 as she recovers from an ACL injury.
