Tragedy hits Queensland school zone: Woman dies after crash with stolen car as driver flees the scene
A woman was killed after a collision with a stolen Mercedes on the Sunshine Coast on Friday morning.
The crash happened at around 7.20am on Windsor Road in Burnside, near the Sunshine Coast, in the state’s south-east.
The woman died after her Nissan Micra collided with a suspected stolen Mercedes hatchback.
The Mercedes was said to have been stolen earlier this morning in Landsborough, a town 30 kilometers south of Burnside.
Queensland Police said the driver of the Mercedes reportedly ran away before being found a short time later.
He has been taken into custody and is understood to be assisting police with their investigation.

“A man in his 20s has been taken into police custody following a serious road traffic collision at Burnside on the Sunshine Coast this morning,” the spokesperson said.
“A female driver was trapped in one of the vehicles, while the male driver of the second vehicle is said to have fled on foot.”
“Police searched the area and were able to arrest the man in a nearby home.”
No charges have been filed.
Part of Windsor Road has been closed until further notice as Queensland Police investigate the incident.
The accident happened near the Nambour Special School and there is a daycare center nearby.
After the accident, the street was littered with debris from the two cars.

The Nissan Micra was seen on the sidewalk with the bonnet smashed and parts of the front and rear doors of the vehicle crumpled.
The Mercedes was seen in the middle of the road, also with a badly damaged bonnet.
Police are calling on anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
