A young man died in a terrifying accident on Sydney’s northern beaches just days before Christmas.

Emergency services rushed to South Creek Road in Cromer following reports that a Holden van collided with a parked boat at around 8:20pm on Friday.

The front seat passenger, believed to be a 29-year-old man, died at the scene.

It has not yet been formally identified.

The 56-year-old driver of the car was not injured and was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was released pending further investigation.

Officers from the Northern Beach Police Area Command established a crime scene, where specialized forensic police began to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

The front seat passenger, believed to be a 29-year-old man, died at the scene while the 56-year-old driver of the car was not injured and was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for mandatory testing.

The fatal accident is the fifth on the roads of New South Wales in a matter of days, and police have issued warnings about driving over the Christmas period.

It comes after a six-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the state’s Murray River region on Thursday.

The tragedy took place on Moulamein Road, Moulamein, about 110 km northwest of Deniliquin.

Another child, a four-year-old boy, who was also traveling in the car, was treated by ambulance paramedics from both NSW and Victoria, before being airlifted to Royal Children’s hospital in Melbourne.

The driver, a 31-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for mandatory tests.
