- Franciso Pequeno da Silva, 81, and his son Pedro were killed in a head-on crash
A father and son traveling in opposite directions – one on a motorbike and the other on a bicycle – on an unlit road were both killed after crashing into each other in a bizarre head-on collision.
Franciso Pequeno da Silva, 81, was concerned that his 19-year-old son Pedro Henrique Sena da Silva had not returned home from a Christmas party in the city of São José de Mipibu, northern Brazil.
Franciso thought his son might have had an accident when he couldn't return home after an hours-long absence, as Pedro knew they had a job to do together the next day.
Overcome with worries, the elderly father decided to look for Pedro on his bicycle on Monday evening.
But as Franciso drove to the party venue without lights, his son came around a sharp bend at high speed and crashed into the pensioner in a horrific head-on collision.

The father and son, who were returning home at the time, were seriously injured in the tragic crash and died when paramedics rushed them to hospital.
State Highway Police suspect Pedro was speeding on the village's dirt road when he collided with his father's bicycle, reports say Globo 1.
Police suspect Pedro was also intoxicated from the alcohol he drank at the party.
Police are investigating their deaths and have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Francisco had married late in life and had apparently been overjoyed to have a son with his young wife. The father and son only recently started working together, although it was unclear what kind of company it was.
