Trading in games will stop in February because the second-hand stock in the store is gradually being phased out
It has been confirmed that UK retailer Game will stop offering trade-ins as it looks to gradually reduce its second-hand inventory.
An inside source confirmed to Ny Breaking Gaming (TRG) that all stores will stop trading from February 16. Our source also tells us that Game was “super angry” internally after reports of this news that appeared online yesterday (January 15). about the leak. Within internal communications, staff were instructed not to speak to the media, to refrain from commenting on articles on social media and not to engage in customer speculation. They were also told not to comment to the media.
Standalone Game stores will continue to sell second-hand stock until it runs out, while concession stores (for example those that exist within Sports Direct stores) will close down completely.
Concession stores will complete the transfer of their pre-owned software from store to store, while the hardware is returned to the distribution center for redistribution as necessary. This comes as part of an “integration” of Game, which is owned by Frasers Group, which also owns retailers such as House of Fraser, Sports Direct, Firetrap and more.
While it’s not currently clear exactly what Game will be integrated with, it’s worth noting that more and more locations have recently been turned into concession stores as part of Sports Direct. The trade-in policy itself was also recently changed so that customers could only receive store credit or Game Gift Cards, while previously cash was also offered.
“As part of the Game integration, we will be phasing out Trade In, Pre-owned and Game Elite offers in the UK over the coming months,” a Frasers Group spokesperson said, also referring to the retailer’s rewards program , which allows customers to earn additional reward points. “Used will still be available in our standalone stores in the UK while stocks last, and Game Elite will still be available until the end of the summer. We are grateful to our dedicated team and our loyal customers for their continued support.”
