Tracy Grimshaw honoured by famous Aussies as she gives emotional final speech on A Current Affair

A tearful Tracy Grimshaw thanked Australians for supporting A Current Affair, while a slew of famous Aussies said goodbye to the longtime presenter on her final episode.

“I’m terrible at the GB word, you know, the word that ends with ‘bye’ and begins with ‘good’, because I’m going to bluff and you all know it won’t be pretty,” Grimshaw said.

“But seriously, when I started here, my bosses at the time said they didn’t like interviews longer than four minutes because you would get bored.

And now look at us. The whole show can do interviews like that because you told us you love them. Thanks for looking.’

Grimshaw paid tribute to the entire Channel Nine team and gave a special shout-out to ‘Daria’ who has done her auto cue since her stint on the Today Show.

The emotional host was handed a bouquet of flowers as she told viewers that they would find out “soon” who would take her place.

A string of high-profile Aussies paid tribute to the host, with her colleagues praising her journalistic skill and easygoing ability to connect with ordinary Australians.

Anthony Albanese, Hamish and Andy, Kyle Sandilands, Ita Buttrose, John Howard, Ray Hadley and Leigh Sales were just a few familiar faces at the farewell.

Mr. Albanese wondered if Australian television would ever be the same, while Kyle Sandilands applauded Grimshaw for always putting her guests at ease.

On her latest episode, Grimshaw spoke to flood victims in the NSW town of Eugowra, who received a live on-air donation of $50,000 from Coles.

The show then took a trip down memory lane and returned to Grimshaw’s interviews with Sue and Lloyd Clarke, the parents of domestic violence victim Hannah Clarke, the Irwin family and Aussie icon Olivia Newtown John.

The latest episode comes just weeks after the former Today host arrived in Melbourne to film her “very special episode from her hometown,” which aired on Wednesday.

Grimshaw announced she was quitting A Current Affair during a September episode saying she admitted it was a “big decision.”

“Normally we would tell you now what to expect tomorrow night, but lately I’ve personally been thinking about the longer term, and I have some news I want you to hear from me before you hear it from anyone else,” she said. them viewers.

‘I’ve decided to round off this year with A Current Affair.

“It’s been a big decision and before the gossip websites start telling you nonsense, I want you to know that it was only my decision and I’m not getting pushed out by the boys’ club because I’m too old.”

The TV presenter, 62, discussed her plans after 16 years on the hit investigative news show during an interview on The Kyle and Jackie O show on Wednesday, confirming she was taking a well-deserved one-year break.

She said she wants to “reset her work-life balance to pure life next year” and is taking 2023 completely off work.

When Kyle Sandilands asked the TV star if she would move on to The Project or another news show, Grimshaw said it wasn’t on the line for her just yet.

‘I have a year off and do nothing for a whole year. I’m resetting my work-life balance to pure living next year,” she said.

“But then you never know what I could do in 2024.”

However, Kyle Sandilands seemed to confirm it was Allison Langdon from the Today show when he interviewed Tracy on his radio show on Wednesday.

Langdon awkwardly dodged questions about her rumored move to A Current Affair while interviewing Kyle live last week.

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she refused to confirm or deny the speculation — despite the shock jock repeatedly pressing for an answer.

From erratic prime ministers, taking on ‘bully’ Gordon Ramsay and that horrific horse riding accident: a look back at Tracy Grimshaw’s sensational 40-year career as she announces she’s leaving A Current Affair

For 17 years at the helm of Channel Nine’s A Current Affair, Tracy Grimshaw has roped in the greats and the good – and had more than her fair share of racy run-ins.

The veteran presenter, 62, shocked viewers on Tuesday night when she announced she was stepping down from her role because she was ‘tired’, insisting she hadn’t fallen victim to a ‘boys club’ that wants younger faces on screen.

Her brilliant career has seen the TV journalist light up the screen of Channel Nine for over 40 years, locking horns with Prime Ministers, A-list celebrities and heinous criminals.

She has documented everything from the Beaconsfield mine collapse to the Bali bombings and the Covid pandemic.

Daily Mail Australia takes a look back at some of Grimshaw’s most memorable moments in her stellar four-decade career.

Scott Morrison eviscerated

With the election just days away and the coalition trailing in the polls, Scott Morrison may have seen his appearance in A Current Affair in May as a ‘soft interview’ and a chance to gain some ground.

But Grimshaw saw it very differently and delivered a scathing assessment of the leadership skills of the then Prime Minister.

She didn’t mince words, describing what she saw as his numerous failures and embarrassing blunders as a leader.

“You said on Sunday you saved the country, (but) you weren’t holding a hose (during the bushfires), you weren’t into your tinny picking people off rooftops (during the NSW and Queensland floods), and you didn’t do it for days from 4pm in PPE (personal protective equipment) on Covid-19 wards,” she said.

“You didn’t have enough vaccines, you didn’t get enough RAT tests, so we finally got to have a Christmas break.

“Do you think you may have exaggerated the part about saving the country a bit?”

Mr Morrison managed to keep his composure before informing the excited Grimshaw that it was ‘quite a long list you’ve been able to put together’.

Over the years, Grimshaw has also crossed swords with many other politicians, including former Prime Minister Bob Hawke and One Nation leader Pauline Hanson.

Gordon Ramsey being grilled

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey had never gotten along with Grimshaw when they’d gone head-to-head before, but it was what happened after their meeting in June 2009 that showed who was boss.

Before an audience of thousands at a food and wine festival in Melbourne, Ramsay described the Channel Nine legend as “a lesbian.”

He then showed a photo of a naked woman on all fours with multiple breasts and the features of a pig.

“That’s Tracy Grimshaw,” he said. “I had an interview with her yesterday, holy bastard. She needs to see Simon Cowell’s botox doctor.’

Ramsay further made disparaging remarks about Grimshaw at the festival. She fired back by slamming the celebrity chef.

Gordon Ramsay made me promise not to ask about his private life on Friday. He came on stage on Saturday and made some very obvious and uninformed innuendos about mine,” Grimshaw told viewers of A Current Affair.

“Gordon, of course, thinks that any woman who doesn’t find him attractive must be gay. For the record, I don’t and I’m not.’
