Tourist in her twenties plunges 50 meters off a cliff while taking a selfie at a popular viewpoint

A 22-year-old tourist has plunged 50 meters off the edge of a cliff while trying to take a selfie at a lookout point on Victoria’s Philip Island.

The young woman was with two of her friends near the Pinnacles Lookout near Cape Woolamai when she fell around noon on Saturday.

It is clear that the woman was trapped for some time with injuries to her back and upper body.

The woman’s two friends climbed down the edge of the cliff and waited with her until emergency services arrived.

Stunned witnesses shared a photo on Facebook showing the helicopter hovering in the area where it fell.

Bass Coast Acting Police Inspector Dave Fyfe said the woman was taken to safety by air ambulance and flown to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital with non-fatal but serious injuries.

“She is in hospital now, the injuries are not fatal but they are still quite serious,” Acting Inspector Fyfe said. ABC news.

‘I don’t mean to downplay what happened to her, but I certainly hope the lady makes a full recovery.

‘The fact is that physics has no selfie clause and gravity is a one-way ticket.’

Inspector Fyfe said the accident should serve as a warning to other tourists as the woman fell from the cliff after deviating from the walking path.

“So if there are any tracks, stick to the tracks, especially people who may be visiting this area,” Inspector Fyfe said.
