Difficult decision! Deciding when to give your child their first cell phone is one of the hardest decisions a parent will make, research shows
- A survey found that 36 percent of parents find it as difficult as choosing the school for their child
According to research, choosing when to give children their first cell phone is now one of the most difficult decisions a parent or caregiver will make.
The survey of parents with children aged eight to seventeen found that 36 percent find it just as difficult to choose which school their children should attend.
Overall, 29 percent found it more difficult than deciding who their kids should play with.
But the decision most parents (56 percent) find most difficult is when to let their kids go to the park or the shops on their own.
The survey of 1,000 parents was conducted by Vodafone UK to launch a new partnership with the NSPCC, providing tips for children’s online safety.

The survey found that 74 percent of parents and carers think it’s important for a child to have a phone when they start secondary school, but more than half (56 percent) are concerned about having one.
The NSPCC said 10 percent of calls to its helpline last year were from mobile phones or online platforms, highlighting concerns about technology safety ahead of the new school year.
