- Tottenham lost at Leicester but the most worrying thing was Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury
- The Uruguayan will reportedly not return to action until August.
- Spurs boss Antonio Conte no longer has Yves Bissouma and Hugo Lloris
Tottenham will be without Rodrigo Bentancur for at least six months after he suffered an ACL injury at Leicester.
Bentancur, who scored the opener in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat, was able to walk off the pitch but had his face buried in his hands knowing the damage had been severe.
The evening standard They have reported that Bentancur will now be out until August at the earliest, bringing his 2022-23 season to a premature end.
Things are going from bad to worse for Tottenham boss Antonio Conte on the injury front, with Bentancur adding to his crisis.
Midfielder Yves Bissouma underwent surgery on Friday for a stress fracture in his left ankle. Conte also has to deal without captain and number 1 goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who will be out for eight weeks.
Rodrigo Bentancur will reportedly not play for Tottenham until August ‘at the earliest’
The Uruguayan midfielder was left with his head in his hands after being injured at Leicester
Bentancur made a brilliant start to the game at the King Power Stadium but was soon genuinely distraught following a clash with Leicester’s Nampalys Mendy.
He was given oxygen on the field and a stretcher was carried up before he could limp out.
Bentancur had his head in his hands and was writhing in pain and will now reportedly play no role in the rest of his Premier League and Champions League campaigns this term.
Spurs assistant manager Cristian Stellini was optimistic about Bentancur’s injury immediately after the 4-1 defeat, but that optimism appears to have been misplaced.
He said: ‘We know that he is in pain, he can walk, so we have to wait a little while to check and understand what happened.
“Hopefully he’ll feel better in a few days, and we can have him back soon.”
A stretcher came in and required oxygen and reportedly suffered an ACL injury.
Tottenham’s attention now turns to the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 with AC Milan.
Losing Bentancur, who has been a revelation under Conte since he arrived from Juventus in January 2022, means 20-year-old Pape Matar Sarr may be pushed into the starting XI.
Senegal ace Sarr has yet to appear in the Champions League and has only one Premier League start so far.
