Tottenham’s new boss Ange Postecoglou ‘identifies THREE recruits’ after taking over as manager

Ange Postecoglou, new Tottenham boss, ‘identifies THREE recruits’ after joining North London… with the Treble winner at Celtic already ‘lining moves for James Maddison, David Raya and Max Kilman ‘

Ange Postecoglou, who has only just sealed the Treble with Celtic, has been confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager and has wasted little time emphasizing his goals for the summer.

Celtic beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 at Hampden Park on Saturday to seal another Treble thanks to goals from Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada and Jota, adding a Scottish Cup to Premiership and League Cup victories.

At the end of a glittering season in Glasgow, the Australian boss has earned himself a move to the Premier League after a move to Spurs came about following reported interest.

The north London team has been without a permanent manager since the departure of Antonio Conte in March, with stand-in Cristian Stellini later sacked in the wake of the club’s dismal 6-1 defeat to Newcastle just a month later.

However, Postecoglou was quick to highlight the players he wants his side to sign in the form of three stars who played in the Premier League in 2022-23, according to The mirror.

Leicester star James Maddison is regarded as one of the Australian’s transfer targets

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs

The Australian wants Spurs to sign James Maddison – relegated with Leicester, Wolves defender Max Kilman and Spain goalkeeper David Raya, who has repeatedly turned down a new contract at Brentford.

England international Maddison would bring creativity and flair to a stale midfield, and although they have been linked with him in the past, they will now have to rival Newcastle who can provide the star with Champions League football.

Maddison has long been regarded as one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in the division, and although his side will be playing Championship football next season, it seems unlikely he will stay at King Power Stadium.

The 26-year-old scored a hugely impressive 10 goals and nine assists for the relegated Foxes, and could spark a £40 million bidding war between Spurs and the Magpies for his services.

In Kilman’s case, the Spurs defense has scored 63 goals – five more than the defender’s current squad despite the five-place difference in the league table – and they need reinforcements at the back.

In addition, contract talks with Eric Dier are reportedly on hold until the end of the season, with his contract expiring next summer, while Davinson Sanchez has slipped further down the pecking order this season.

Veteran captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will leave this summer after 11 years in London, with his contract also due in 2024, with Raya seen as a long-term replacement.

The Spaniard has sparked interest from a host of top Premier League clubs this season, with Spurs previously seeking a £20 million deal to sign the stopper.

While Postecoglou is reportedly quick to specify who he wants the club to bring in, it remains to be seen whether talisman Harry Kane will still be in charge in 2023/24.

The England captain’s contract runs until 2024 and with no indication of an extension, it’s widely reported he may leave this summer, although Daniel Levy has ruled out a move to Premier League clubs.

He has been closely linked with a move to Manchester United, but Karim Benzema’s sensational departure from Real Madrid has made Carlo Ancelotti’s side one of the candidates for his services.

Spurs announced the Australian boss’s arrival on Tuesday by tweeting: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as our new head coach on a four-year contract.”
