Tottenham ‘will step up their hunt for Ange Postecoglou next week’ after Daniel Levy impressed the Celtic boss… with incoming Spurs chief Scott Munn ‘also a big fan’ of the Australian coach

  • Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a new first-team boss following the departure of Antonio Conte
  • They have recently been turned down by some of their first choice candidates
  • However, they will now give chase to bring in Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham are reported to step up their pursuit of Celtic boss Ange Postocoglou next week after being impressed by the coach.

The north London side are still looking for a new first-team manager following the dramatic departure of Antonio Conte in March.

The Spurs have held talks with a number of candidates, but after Arne Slot recently pledged his future to Feyenoord, they are having bad luck in the negotiations.

However, that could all change very soon as the club prepares to step up their hunt for the Australian coach – who recently clinched the Scottish Premiership title.

According to the Evening StandardSpurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to have been impressed by Postecoglou and is now happy to continue the discussions.

The same outlet claims that Scott Munn, Levy’s incoming chief football officer – who is also Australian and knows Postecoglou personally – is supportive of the coach.

Last month, Spurs announced that Scott will join the board and “take charge of all football departments” after Levy announced a review following the publication of the club’s financial accounts.

Munn was appointed Chief Executive Officer of City Football Group in China in 2019 and previously spent nine years with A-League side Melbourne City FC as their Chief Executive Officer.

Melbourne City FC are rivals to Melbourne Victory, the club where Postecoglou spent a year before taking on the Australian national team.

The 57-year-old forged an impressive career during his time in Australia and Japan before finally joining Celtic in June 2021.

Since then he has already won back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles. Their most recent title win was secured by a 5-0 victory over Aberdeen.

Despite his successes in Scotland, the Aussie coach was not Tottenham’s first choice to enter in the coming months.

Instead, Spurs held talks with Vincent Kompany, Xabi Alonso and Arne Slot. All three managers rejected a move in favor of staying at their respective clubs.

Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch recently criticized the club’s negotiation process, suggesting their search for a manager had become an ’embarrassment’.

“It’s a really tough one,” Crouch said. “They’ve had so many people in the race and then ruled themselves out, it’s become a bit embarrassing for Tottenham.

“When you consider how big the club is and the training facilities, the ground, the players and nobody seems to want it.

“There are still some good candidates left, Ange Postecogolu seems to be the one at the moment, but I would have thought it would be Roberto De Zerbi himself.”
