Tottenham ‘will ask Juventus for cut-price Dejan Kulusevski deal’ instead of £24.9m clause
Tottenham ‘will ask Juventus for a Dejan Kulusevski deal at a reduced price’ rather than trigger a £24.9m clause, cornering the Italian side and missing out on £120m from loaned players who not be sold
- Dejan Kulusevski scored twice during a disappointing season for Tottenham Hotspur
- Winger is on loan from Juventus and the Premier League side has an option to buy
- Spurs will ask for a lower price, less than the £24.9 million clause
Tottenham ‘will ask Juventus for a discount on Dejan Kulusevski’, rather than opting to activate his £24.9m release clause.
The winger is on loan to Spurs and the club have the option to make the deal permanent, but they believe they can sign him at a reduced price.
Juventus are desperate for money and it seems Daniel Levy sees an opportunity to put pressure on the Italian club.
According to calciomercatothe Premier League side wants to discuss a lower fixed fee and convert part of the amount into performance-related bonuses.
Juventus had hoped a number of clauses would be activated this summer for players on loan.
Dejan Kulusevski’s future is uncertain and Tottenham want an advantageous deal
But Weston McKennie, Denis Zakaria and Arthur Melo’s spells at Leeds, Chelsea and Liverpool respectively did not go according to plan.
None of those Premier League clubs are exercising the option, meaning the Italian side will miss out on some £120 million.
They will also have to continue to pay players’ wages and have missed out on Champions League football, creating yet another financial shortfall.
Kulusevski shone in moments but has struggled for form overall at Spurs this season.
He only scored two goals and provided a total of eight assists throughout the season.
He recently admitted not knowing where his future lies, saying: ‘I honestly don’t know…we’ll see.
“I’m just focused on the pitch, I’ve tried to do the best I can and now of course it’s time to talk to the club.”
Tottenham remain managerless as their search for a new boss continues after a difficult season that saw them finish eighth.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the new front-runner for the role and perhaps the Spurs hierarchy will wait to see what a new manager’s plans are before deciding what to do with Kulusevski.
Massimiliano Allegri knows that Juventus needs to generate money with a number of loan players
