Tottenham have contacted supporters and told them not to bring national flags to their Premier League match against Fulham on Monday.
The club has sent an email to fans with tickets for Monday night’s match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, telling them that a football match “is not an appropriate arena to display flags of any political or religious persuasion or anything that might can be considered seditious.”
“The club has always been convinced that a football match is first and foremost a moment to show loyalty to a football team,” it said.
“A football match is not an appropriate arena to display flags of any political or religious belief or anything that could be considered inflammatory – this could include national flags at times of political conflict, campaigns or issues.”
Premier League players, managers and match officials will wear black armbands and observe a moment’s silence at matches this matchday weekend to remember the victims of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 4,137 people, most of them women, children and older adults, have been killed since the start of the last war in Gaza. More than 13,000 others have been injured.
Israel said 1,400 of its citizens were killed in the weekend attack on October 7.
