Micky van de Ven has been ruled out until after the international match due to a hamstring injury.
The centre-back left the pitch in tears on Wednesday night, holding the back of his right leg in the first half of Spurs’ victory over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
It led to fears that he had suffered another hamstring injury as serious as the one that forced him to miss two months last season, but Ange Postecoglou was hopeful that Van de Ven would have him back much sooner.
“Micky has suffered a hamstring injury,” Postecoglou confirmed. ‘It’s not too serious, but that will probably be the case for him after the international break.
‘He was clearly disappointed, he was really looking forward to the match and so was a bit emotional, but it’s certainly not a bad match like last time, which kept him out for a long time.

Van de Ven is confirmed to have suffered a hamstring injury during Tottenham’s win over Man City
Ange Postecoglou said the injury is not as serious as the star’s last season
‘He will work hard and the good thing is we have the international break which is an extra two weeks so hopefully that means he won’t miss too much football.’
However, there was positive news for fellow centre-back Cristian Romero, who was also sacked in midweek, leaving Postecoglou with the possibility of being without both first-choice centre-backs for the visit of Aston Villa on Sunday.
“Romero and Timo Werner had some pain, but at the moment there is still a chance for next weekend,” he said.
Spurs captain Heung-min Son trained on Friday and should be available after missing the defeat to Crystal Palace and the win over City that secured Tottenham’s place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
“Sonny trained today, so if he gets through training tomorrow, everything should be fine,” Postecoglou added.

Postecoglou confirmed that Wilson Odobert had suffered a ‘significant’ setback following his brief return
Less positive, however, was £25m summer signing Wilson Odobert, whose return from a month-long hamstring injury was short-lived after a serious setback last week.
“It’s significant,” Postecoglou said. ‘Because it’s a repeat, we’ll have to be a bit conservative.
“I’d say a similar time frame to his last one, maybe a little longer, but it’s one you don’t want to put a time frame on because it’s really going to depend on how quickly he heals from it.”
