Tottenham suffer huge transfer blow after Brentford secure £26m signing of Club Brugge starlet Antonio Nusa – but the Norwegian international will stay in Belgium for the remainder of the season
- Brentford have secured the signing of Norway international Antonio Nusa
- The 18-year-old is the second-youngest goalscorer in the history of the Champions League
- Nusa scored three goals and three assists in 26 appearances for Club Brugge
Tottenham have been dealt a major blow in the transfer window after Brentford beat them to the signing of Norwegian youngster Antonio Nusa.
Nusa’s three goals and three assists in 26 appearances in all competitions for Club Brugge, combined with his young age, caught the attention of some major Premier League clubs.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have been following the 18-year-old for some time and he was even the subject of interest from Chelsea last year.
Despite few transfers being completed in the league in January, Spurs have already been active and wanted to secure Nusa’s services.
But it is Thomas Frank’s Brentford who have beaten the north London outfit and signed the exciting winger.
Antonio Nusa is in impressive form at Club Brugge despite his tender age of just 18
The Norwegian international is attracting great interest from Spurs, Brentford and Chelsea
Ange Postecoglou could not convince Nusa to go to North London with Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin
His rise to fame in the Jupiler Pro League also saw the winger called up by Norwegian manager Stale Solbakken, with Nusa making his international debut in a friendly against Jordan, scoring and assisting in the 6-0 demolition job.
Nusa scored against Porto in the Champions League to become the second-youngest goalscorer in the competition’s history last season at just 17 years and 149 days.
The youngster will remain in Belgium for the rest of the season before joining the Bees in the summer.
Thomas Frank will be delighted to have secured the services of such an exciting young talent
He joins the list of a busy period for Brentford, who have already signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from Spurs, goalkeeper Hakon Rafn Valdimarsson from Elfsborg and midfielder Yunus Emre Konak from Sivasspor.
Despite the blow, it is not all doom and gloom for Tottenham, who have already signed former Chelsea and RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner on loan.
They have also strengthened their defense by signing Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin for £21.5m plus £4.5m in potential add-ons.
