Legendary goalkeeper Pat Jennings has been taken to hospital after collapsing before Tottenham’s match with Chelsea on Monday evening.

Jennings, 78, was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch former club Spurs in action against their fierce rivals but fell ill before kick-off.

Mail Sport understands the Northern Ireland legend was assessed by stadium medics in north London before being taken to a local hospital.

On the plus side, Mail Sport also understands Jennings is expected to feel better later in the evening.

Jennings, who started his career at Watford, would see Ange Postecoglou’s side look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season from the stands, with Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino returning to White Hart Lane for the first time since being sacked by the club. 2019.

The match started at a frenetic pace, with Tottenham breaking the deadlock inside five minutes before pandemonium on the pitch reduced Spurs to nine men and lost their first Premier League game of the season thanks to Nicolas Jackson’s hat-trick and Cole’s penalty Palmer.

During the game, five goals were disallowed via VAR, Cristian Romero and Destiny Odogie were sent off for Spurs, Postecoglou was shown a yellow card and Micky van de Ven suffered a ‘significant’ hamstring injury in a hectic match in North London for the hosts .

The Northern Ireland legend made 472 appearances for Tottenham over a 13-year period between 1964 and 1977 before making the move to rivals Arsenal.

Jennings spoke exclusively to Mail Sport this weekend after a statue was unveiled in his home town of Newry to celebrate his glittering career.

The former goalkeeper also won 119 caps for Northern Ireland and remains one of the very best to pull on a pair of goalkeeping gloves.
