Fans have taken to social media to criticise Emerson Royal after he gifted Hearts a goal in Tottenham’s pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
Spurs beat Hearts 5-1 in a pre-season friendly but failed to keep a clean sheet after Emerson made an error that gave Lawrence Shankland a golden opportunity.
The 25-year-old Brazilian defender received the ball on the right side of the pitch before being stopped by his opponent.
Emerson cut back before attempting to play the ball upfield, but his pass was intercepted around the 18-yard box.
This gave the ball to Shankland, who turned and fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal in the 45th minute.

To make matters worse, Tottenham were only 1-0 up at the time of the goal, with mistakes from Emerson allowing Shankland to level the score.
Fans were furious at Emerson’s decision and called for Tottenham to sell the 25-year-old defender during the summer transfer window.
One social media user wrote: ‘Funny, the only goal we conceded in our friendly match was the fault of none other than Emerson Royal.’
Another X – formerly known as Twitter – user wrote: ‘NEVER, EVER EVER let Emerson Royal play for Spurs again! Sell him now!’.
A third added: ‘Emerson Royal simply cannot have a fourth season at Tottenham Hotspur. He has never been good enough and he never will be. Get him out.’
One fan wrote: ‘What a second half performance against Hearts from the Younguns, apart from the brain teaser from Emerson Royal.’
While another Tottenham supporter said: ‘How the f**k can Emerson Royal still wear a Spurs shirt. Get rid of him ASAP!’.
A Tottenham supporter joked: ‘Emerson Royal, surely you are 100 percent an AI experiment?’
Tottenham have rejected an opening bid of 10 million euros (£8.4 million) from AC Milan for Emerson, in a move that fans say was the wrong decision.
The Italian side approached Tottenham with a verbal and then written offer, but their proposed deal was rejected as Spurs wanted a double for the defender.
AC Milan have yet to return to the table with a higher bid, while Borussia Dortmund and clubs in Saudi Arabia are also said to be interested.
