  • A Crystal Palace fan appeared to blast Spurs forward with racist slurs
  • Tottenham issued a damning statement following the incident

The Metropolitan Police are working to identify a Crystal Palace supporter who appeared to be racially abusing Tottenham striker Son Heung-min on Saturday.

The South Korean star was substituted in the 89th minute and left the pitch on the quickest route possible, passing traveling Palace fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Everyday hand gestures greeting opponents at matches were aimed at Son, along with a man who appeared to be racially abusing the 30-year-old.

In a series of actions, the supporter rolled his eyes, scolded Son and appeared to mock a tourist taking pictures with a camera.

Video footage captured the three-second interaction and work is now underway to identify the person involved.

Tottenham issued a short and strong statement on Sunday morning condemning the alleged racist abuse against their player.

The statement read: We are aware of an allegation of racial abuse against Heung-Min Son during yesterday’s game.

“Discrimination of any kind is abhorrent and has no place in society, our game and our club.

“We are working with Met Police and Crystal Palace to investigate and identify the person involved.

“We will do everything we can to ensure that if found guilty, the person receives the strictest measures possible, as was the case earlier this season when Son suffered similar racist abuse at Chelsea,” the club added.

This is the third time this season Son has been targeted with racial abuse after suffering similar repercussions following games against Chelsea and West Ham.

A Chelsea supporter was banned from the club by the club and charged with a racially aggravated public order offense for making a racially aggravated gesture towards Son.

Meanwhile, Tottenham also had to carry out similar investigations after their player received racist messages on social media following a 2-0 win over West Ham in February.
