Tottenham goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris was unceremoniously taken off at half-time after scoring five first-half goals in a defensive horror display in Newcastle.
The Frenchman was replaced at half time by Fraser Forster after Newcastle rioted at St James’ Park in a crucial game in the battle for the top four.
The Spurs goalkeeper revealed after the shock 6-1 defeat that he had been substituted due to injury.
Reflecting on his own fitness, having only just returned from his hip injury, Lloris told Sky Sports: “It doesn’t sound good.
“I don’t know if it’s muscle, but I felt something around the hip on a long kick. We’ll see after a scan and a few days.’

Like all his teammates, Lloris endured a torrid time as Newcastle scored five goals within the first 21 minutes and coach Cristian Stellini took drastic action.
He could only push Joelinton’s first-minute shot into the path of Jacob Murphy, who ended up in the roof of the net to help Newcastle get going.
Joelinton then rounded the keeper before scoring Newcastle’s second six minutes after the Spurs back-line had been fully caught by Fabian Schar’s diagonal ball.
Lloris then appeared completely unresponsive as Murphy blasted home from 25 yards for 3–0, holding his spot as the ball flew past him.
Alexander Isak charged through the Spurs back line and scored Newcastle’s fourth before Lloris was fouled for the fifth.

He got a hand on Isak’s shot and should have tried harder to keep it out, but was defeated by the force of the blow.
That turned out to be the last straw for Stellini, who took him off the field during halftime without Lloris being injured.
Mind you, it could have been more embarrassing, with defender Pape Sarr walking off in embarrassment after just 29 minutes and replaced by Davinson Sanchez as Spurs tried to stop the rot.
Lloris admitted that Tottenham’s standards were unacceptable after the defeat.
‘We couldn’t fight. Newcastle were very aggressive and attacking every time they got the ball,” he added.
“It’s hard to analyze the performance, but the first thing was a lack of pride.

“You can get hit once or twice and then you give in, but on the pitch there was something strange, like we couldn’t even react to bounce back into the game.
We can make excuses, but we missed the fight. Going out on the field with no desire to win the battle makes it very difficult. It was a bit of a mess.’
Lloris continued: “We cannot hide behind the club’s problems. We are players, we are professionals and every time we go out on the pitch we try to give our best, but today it was too weak in all aspects.
“It’s just another level between Newcastle and Tottenham today. Now there are two other difficult games in the week (Manchester United and Liverpool). We have to bounce back.’
