Tottenham are considering offers for defender Eric Dier amid interest from Fulham.

The 29-year-old has been left out of new manager Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the first two weeks of the Premier League season.

It was the latest criticism of the England international after the Australian manager also decided not to give him the captain’s armband. He handed it over to Son Heung-min after Harry Kane was sold, with Hugo Lloris supposed to follow him out the door.

Dier still has a year left on his contract and Postecoglou seems to be making it clear that the defender doesn’t fit into his plans.

Fulham’s interest in Dier, meanwhile, comes as they expect Tosin Adarabioyo to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

Adarabioyo is a target of Tottenham, but also of Ligue 1 Monaco.

Monaco saw a bid for Adarabioyo rejected earlier this summer, while they are also planning a transfer for Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez.

Dier has played 49 England caps and was part of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad last year, but lost his form in the second part of last season when he struggled with a groin injury.

Cristian Romero and new £43 million centre-back Micky van de Ven started in central defense in the 2-2 draw against Brentford and the 2-0 win against Manchester United.

Postecoglou said on Friday his priority is to slim down his squad before he can pursue further targets in the market – a striker, a midfielder and another centre-back.

Asked about his absence after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Brentford, Postecoglou said: ‘Eric is part of this team. We left out a few today. We left some players on the bench today who are very good players.

“We need a strong team, it’s not about eleven players. Eric is in the same boat as all the other guys.

He works hard in training and is available for selection. My decisions are then what I think will give us the best chance of success for a given game, and then we’ll reassess the following week. Nothing special there.’
