Tottenham will have a clear run on key management target Julian Naglesmann this summer.
Spurs have held exploratory talks regarding the appointment of the former Bayern Munich head coach as the club’s next permanent boss.
Tottenham want to complete a thorough process as Naglesmann waits to see who will be appointed as the next sporting director and want to be sure of the level of control he will have over the club’s approach to recruitment before deciding whether to seriously pursue a formal considering approach.
The emergence of Johannes Spors as a contender for the vacant sporting directorship is particularly intriguing as the administrator has a previous relationship with Naglesmann from the Bundesliga circuit. Brentford technical director Lee Dykes is also among the candidates.
The Spurs insist there is no No. 1 candidate, but it is clear that Naglesmann is the main contender for the job.

But chairman Daniel Levy will have to convince Naglesmann – who is waiting to see who the club’s next sporting director is and wants certainty about the level of control he will have
And Mail Sport has heard that Tottenham are confident they are unlikely to face competition from rival clubs for Nagelsmann if he is installed as their preferred candidate.
Naglesmann was the favorite to take the lead at Chelsea, but he pulled out of the race over concerns over the recruitment process – with Mauricio Pochettino now appointed as the new Blues boss.
The 35-year-old is open to a transfer to the Premier League this summer, with the vacancy at Tottenham arguably the best job available in England.
The top job at Real Madrid could become vacant if Carlo Ancelotti leaves, but Naglesmann would likely be an outsider for that coveted position.
Barring an unexpected vacancy at a top European club this summer, Tottenham will be in a strong position to continue with Naglesmann – although the club’s next sporting director will be a key factor from the German’s perspective.

Even though they sacked Naglesmann, Bayern Munich would still owe a compensation package – believed to be in the region of £10million – from his next club this summer.
Similarly, Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot would also receive a hefty compensation package – around £6 million – if Spurs decide to move in the direction of the Dutchman.
Like Naglesmann, Slot will seek certainty about the degree of control he will have over his involvement in football decisions.
