Tottenham are asked by Shakhtar Donetsk to pay damages after bringing Manor Solomon to the club.
The Israeli striker spent last season on loan at Fulham and was able to make a permanent transfer to Spurs on a free transfer despite being under contract with his former side.
The deal was able to go ahead thanks to a FIFA ruling allowing any player under contract with a Ukrainian club to extend their deal for another year.
The clause known as Schedule 7 meant that Solomon could extend his deal beyond the December 31 expiration date and join as a free agent.
Shakhtar tried to challenge the decision at the time and is now seeking £5.6 million in damages for the 24-year-old.

The two clubs are trying to agree on an appropriate fee and a meeting between the CEO of the Ukrainian side, Sergei Palkin, and Spurs’ director of football administration and governance, Rebecca Caplehorn, was used for negotiations.
Shakhtar is eager to try and get a cash settlement, while Spurs currently prefer a resale fee if they decide to sell Solomon in the future.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was not involved in any discussions while in America.

Meanwhile, Solomon came off the bench in Sunday’s 5-1 pre-season win against his former side to boost Ange Postecoglou’s side ahead of the new Premier League season.
Harry Kane stole the show with four goals and received a standing ovation from the home crowd, despite the uncertainty about his future.
The Spurs forward is still being pursued by Bayern Munich, who are desperate to secure a deal for the 30-year-old who is seen as Thomas Tuchel’s main transfer target.
Tottenham will kick off their Premier League campaign when they travel to Brentford on Sunday.
