Tottenham supporters have hit back at plans to have Squid Game guards roam their stadium for two matches after the Premier League giants announced a partnership with the hit Netflix show.
The club has announced that the activations will take place ahead of the Premier League matches against Liverpool and Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 22 and 29 respectively.
Tottenham said the partnership with Netflix will support the launch of the second season of Squid Game on December 26.
The first season of the Korean thriller became the streaming service’s most-watched series in history in 2021.
Tottenham have announced plans for activities for fans attending their next two Premier League matches.
This included Squid Game security guards roaming the stadium in pink hooded jumpsuits for photo opportunities, while a giant hot-air balloon of the Young-hee doll – featured in the ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game – outside the stadium will appear before the match.

The season two trailer will be shown on the stadium screens during half-time of the matches, while visual elements from the show will also be shown.
Tottenham’s men’s and women’s team players will also take part in challenges from the show on the club’s channels.
“Squid Game 2 will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about shows this festive season and our partnership with Netflix puts the Club at the center of popular culture,” said Ryan Norys, Chief Revenue Officer of Tottenham.
“This is another exciting way to enhance the matchday experience and provide our fans with new, engaging content across digital channels.”
However, the announcement was met with a backlash from Tottenham fans on social media, with supporters questioning the club’s priorities.
‘Games disappeared. What the hell is this,” one social media account responded.
“Oh, fuck off. Giant puppets and muppets pretending to be villains in pink trackies roaming around on match day, but we can’t turn off the music before the KO or get a few hundred fans together to sing,” another commented.
‘There used to be a football club there.’

The announcement comes days after fans sang protest songs against chairman Daniel Levy
A third wrote: ‘The attempt at Americanisation of matchdays at Spurs is becoming so miserable. They advertise where singers will perform in the halls, light shows, cosplayers with squid games and now even the trumpet.
“No one cares or wants any of it. Win some games!’
The criticism of the partnership comes just days after Tottenham sang protest songs against chairman Daniel Levy.
A section of Tottenham fans have also announced plans for a protest against ENIC – the club’s majority shareholders – ahead of the match against Liverpool on December 22.
The planned protest is reportedly aimed at highlighting ‘dissatisfaction with the club’s current direction in football’.
Fans will reportedly release balloons in the 24th minute of the match to signify that ENIC has been in charge of the club for years.
Tottenham currently sit tenth in the Premier League after a mixed season, with seven wins, two draws and seven defeats so far.
Ange Postecoglou’s team is five points behind the top four of the Premier League.
