Tottenham 2-3 West Ham: Gianluca Scamacca, Danny Ings and Divin Mubamba hand Hammers win over Spurs in Perth, as Ange Postecoglou falls to defeat in first game in charge

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side lost to a 3-2 defeat to rivals West Ham in the Australian’s first game in charge at the club.

Postecoglou watched as the Spurs were narrowly beaten by their London rivals in a closely contested game at Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.

Gianluca Scamacca, Danny Ings and Divin Mubamba were all on target for David Moyes’ side as they progressed to a third straight pre-season win.

Spurs, meanwhile, almost saved a draw through second-half strikes from Giovanni Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie, but it was too little, too late for the north London side.

There will still be plenty of positives for Spurs fans to look back on after first getting a glimpse of their new attacking style in action.

Tottenham started the better of the two sides and had a handful of chances – through players like Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp – to open the scoring.

However, their revamped side – featuring debutants such as Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon – didn’t immediately succeed and was undone midway through the first half.

After dominating the early part of the game, the Spurs were hit on the counter-attack by West Ham – who took the lead through Danny Ings.

The former Southampton and Aston Villa striker snuck in at the back post to land on the end of a Jarrod Bowen cross and nod past debutant Vicario.

The Hammers doubled their lead just two minutes later after Divin Mubamba went top and headed past Vicario from a corner.

Spurs fans were particularly brazen as they reflected on the goal on social media, as many took aim at the sloppy defense from their back lines.

Despite trailing by two goals at half-time, Spurs were arguably the better side and had created more clear cut chances – they simply hadn’t capitalized on them.

Taking matters into his own hands at half-time, Postecoglou made 11 changes to the Spurs line-up, replacing everyone from goalkeeper to striker.

Postecoglou’s call helped Spurs maintain control throughout the second half before striking twice to tie the score.

The first came through Argentina midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso, who learned the ball past Lukas Fabianski in the 69th minute.

It was an impressive cameo for the former PSG playmaker – who was expected to play a supporting role in his return to Tottenham.

Just two minutes later, Postecoglou’s side were level when Italian full-back Destiny Udogie – who spent last year on loan at Udinese – headed home from a corner.

Italy’s U21 star flicked his header back and saw it pass over Fabianski – and a handful of West Ham defenders – before settling into the back of the net.

Brazilian striker Richarlison had a handful of chances throughout the game, but failed to score

It would have been the perfect second half for Postecoglou, but his return to Australia was soon spoiled by substitute Gianluca Scamacca.

The Italian striker – who joined from the Hammers from Sassuolo last year – raced through on goal and put his effort past Brandon Austin to give West Ham victory.

It was the third pre-season victory for David Moyes’ side, who recently beat Boreham Wood and Perth Glory.

Spurs, meanwhile, will face Leicester on Sunday, and Lion City Sailors FC next week.
