Richarlison scored his first goal since May to give Tottenham a 1–0 win over Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou brought the Brazilian into his starting line-up for Thursday’s match after a spell on the sidelines and he repaid his manager’s faith by scoring the only goal in the thrilling encounter.

Spurs had the chance to take the lead against their stubborn opponents when Lucas Bergvall was fouled in the penalty area shortly after half-time. Richarlison then took responsibility for the penalty and sent the effort confidently in the 53rd minute.

The visitors later saw their numbers dwindle when defender David Moller Wolfe was shown a second yellow card.

With the win, the Premier League team maintains their perfect record in the competition this season. Postecoglou’s men travel to Istanbul to face Galatasaray in their next Europa League match. More to follow.
