Tory Lanez will spend the next ten years of his life behind bars, but that won’t stop him from releasing new music.
The 31-year-old rapper (born Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson) recorded a message for his fans from North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, called Umbrellas, which was posted to his Instagram on Monday.
He admitted it was a “frightening time” when he was handed a 10-year prison sentence for the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Sallion, but the experience has not dampened his spirits.
Lanez also revealed that a deluxe edition of his 2021 album Alone at Prom will be released in the near future.
He began the message to his fans, affectionately called ‘Umbrellas’: ‘Ayo Umbrellas man, what’s good?’

“I’m talking to you live from jail right now, man, I’m just happy to get out of that bulls**t county jail,” he added about his time in the Los Angeles County Jail.
‘They hated a young fly, did you hear that? Had me locked down 24 hours a day, half a size cell by myself, no windows, no mirrors, n***a hadn’t even seen herself in a whole year, yo,” he added.
“But with all the cons against me, I’ve always kept my head high, man, and I want you all to know I’m in a good mood,” he added.
“My drive and my ambition are getting stronger and stronger every day, and I am so proud of how you have all stepped up in my support,” he continued.
“Man, I know this feels like a scary time, but don’t be afraid, man. This doesn’t strike fear in my heart at all,” he admitted.
He added that he’s “more prepared than ever” with new music, videos and “all the other projects you wanted, they’re all ready to drop.”
“So let’s start with the one we want most, the Alone at Prom Deluxe,” Lanez said as the short message came to an end.
Lanez was arrested on July 12, 2020 after leaving a house party in the Hollywood Hills and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion claimed a month later that she had been shot in the foot by Lanez, although he continually denied this and even discussed the shooting on almost every song on his Daystar album released in September.
Just before Christmas in 2022, he was convicted in a jury trial on three charges related to the shooting.
Lanez was sentenced in August to 10 years behind bars in federal prison and transferred to North Kern State Prison.
He was also arrested in April 2022 for violating a protective order related to the case, and was released on $350,000 bail.
